PASTOR ON CALL

Chris Henry will be on vacation through Saturday, July 31st. If a pastoral need arises during that time, Rev. Mary Miller Brueggemann is pastor on call. You can reach Mary at 404.327.9159, mmbruegg9@gmail.com, or by calling the church office.

CONGREGATIONAL HYMN SING TODAY

As part of worship today, we will have an old-fashioned congregational hymn sing. The service promises to be inspiring and filled with wonderful musical favorites sung by our congregation!

LAY LITURGIST

In keeping with the Presbyterian tenet of the priesthood of all believers, Morningside maintains a Lay Liturgy Team.  Our lay reader this morning is Link Marx.

NASHVILLE MISSION TRIP

As Presbyterian Disaster Assistance begins its flood recovery work in Nashville, Morningside will send a team August 18-21. Contact Duncan Spears if you are interested in this mission trip to Tennessee. Join us for an informational meeting today at 12:15 p.m. in the Session Room.

‘IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT ME’ II

Mission Camp starts tomorrow with 21 children registered! We still need volunteers to provide a light camp dinner on Friday. Contact Shannon Lazzaro at Lazzaroshannon@yahoo.com if you are able to assist or sign up on the bulletin board across from the Session Room (Rm 103). We are also seeking two more large tents to borrow for the Friday night sleepover at Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue Center. Contact Melinda Sandkam to provide tents.

SUNDAY SCHOOL WORKDAY

Contact Jill Davis at jsamail@yahoo.com to let her know that you can stay after worship next Sunday, August 1 to help spruce up our children’s Sunday school rooms.  Enjoy dessert first at the ice cream social, then meet in Room 001 at 12:30 for sandwiches and an hour of cleaning and organizing to get ready for school year.  Children are welcome as helpers or to enjoy playground.

INTOWN COLLABORATIVE MINISTRIES

The Intown Collaborative Ministries (formerly ICA) is a ministry cooperative of congregations in zip codes 30306 and 30307 intended to help alleviate hunger by providing nutritious food and social growth through meaningful service. We will be collecting food donations through next Sunday, August 1.  The current needs include: canned vegetables and fruits, pasta sauce, peanut butter, canned meats, fruit juices, cold cereals and crackers. Please support this important outreach by placing donated items in the Welcome Center baskets.

WHAT HAPPENED AT GENERAL ASSEMBLY?

Next Sunday at 9:45a.m. in Room 201, Chris Henry will offer a summary of the actions and conversations of the 219th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), followed by time for dialogue and questions. Come to learn more about the mission and ministry of our denomination and its work around the world!

NEXT SUNDAY: COME CASUAL!

All those who live in the neighborhood are invited to walk to church next Sunday, and everyone (including choir members and pastors) is encouraged to come casual. As part of the worship service, we'll hear brief "This I Believe" statements from three of our members, and the participants in our second annual Mission Camp will give a report on their experience. Fellowship hour next Sunday will feature summertime favorites--don't miss this Summer Sunday at Morningside!

CHURCH RETREAT TO MONTREAT-NOVEMBER 19-21

Registration for MPC's 2nd Annual Retreat to Montreat is well underway! If you have been thinking about going but have not yet completed your registration, now is the time. We need to know how many are attending as early as possible to plan programming, space, and food. (Of course reservations will be accepted as long as we have space, but don't risk being left out!) Last year 53 members of all ages enjoyed this special time away from the city to fellowship with each other, reflect and give thanks for God's goodness in 2009. See the photo album in the narthex. We hope you will join us in 2010. Questions? Contact Sarah Brownlee, rsbrownlee1046@att.net.

HUFF ANNIVERSARY
Plans are being finalized for a weekend celebration of Walter Huff's 20 years as Music Director at Morningside.  In early September, Morningside members and friends will receive invitations to a dinner to be held at Druid Hills Golf Club on Saturday, October 16. An enclosed RSVP card will need to be returned no later than Friday, October 1st. Cost is anticipated to be $50/per person.
Additionally, Walter's ministry will also be recognized during worship on October 17 and at a reception during the Fellowship Hour following worship.
Save these dates and join fellow Morningsiders as we recognize Walter's significant contributions to our worship experience and to the ministry of Morningside Presbyterian Church since 1990.

OPENINGS AT MORNINGSIDE PRESCHOOL

Morningside Presbyterian Preschool currently has openings in the pre-k class for this fall. The child must be four years old by September 1, 2010. For more information, please contact Sarah Tomaka at 404/685-8758 or mpp@morningsidepc.org.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE
