THIS MORNING'S SERMON
As part of worship this morning, we welcome three Morningside members who will offer reflections on their faith and journeys of discipleship. The practice of testimony has been a part of Christian worship since the earliest gatherings of believers in the First Century. This morning, we hear testimony from Kathy Bremer, Collier Maxwell, and Mardee Rightmyer. We are grateful to each of them for sharing their story and their faith.
THIS MORNING'S AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
The Affirmation of Faith this morning was written by our 3rd-6th graders in children's worship this summer as part of their study of Christian worship. We appreciate the gift of their words and faith!
MISSION CAMP FINALE
The 22 children that attended Mission Camp this week are pleased to share just a bit about what they experienced in the Minute Message this morning. Be sure to ask them more about their week during Fellowship Hour. Thank you to the whole MPC community for your support of this very special week.
SUNDAY SCHOOL WORKDAY
Please stay after worship today to help spruce up our children’s Sunday school rooms. Enjoy dessert first at the ice cream social, then meet in Room 001 at 12:30 for sandwiches and an hour of cleaning and organizing to get ready for the school year. Children are welcome as helpers or to enjoy playground.
BAG LUNCHES AFTER WORSHIP
Next Sunday, August 8, MPC will launch its ‘Bread for the Journey’ initiative. Meet in Fellowship Hall and while enjoying snacks, help to bag lunches that will go to the men at Clifton Sanctuary Ministries. There will also be an opportunity to bag some non-perishables that you can take with you to hand out as needed. Children are welcome to help with their parents. In coming months, we will grow this program, so watch for more details.
YOUNG ADULTS CELEBRATE SUMMER WITH A DRIVE-IN MOVIE
Experience one of Atlanta's hidden treasures -- the Starlight Six Drive-in theater on Moreland Avenue -- with the Young Adults on Saturday, August 14. We'll enjoy a picnic dinner together before the movie starts. More details to come. RSVP to Lisa Harris at Lisa.S.Harris@gmail.com.
KICK OFF THE SCHOOL YEAR
All are welcome to a light breakfast and fun activities on the front lawn at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, August 15 as we kick off the school year. Ms. Sue will share Bible stories, Jonah the Whale will make an appearance and much more. We will then start our Sunday school year by dedicating the students, teachers and volunteers during worship. All children are invited to “move up” to their new classes starting on this date. Families will be receiving information in the mail or you can contact Program Director Melinda Sandkam with any questions.
HUFF ANNIVERSARY
Plans are being finalized for a weekend celebration of Walter Huff's 20 years as Music Director at Morningside. The evening's program will include musical offerings and remembrances from present and past Morningsiders. In early September, Morningside members and friends will receive invitations to a dinner to be held at Druid Hills Golf Club on Saturday, October 16. An enclosed RSVP card will need to be returned no later than Friday, October 1st. Cost is anticipated to be $50/per person.
Additionally, Walter's ministry will also be recognized during worship on October 17 and at a reception during the Fellowship Hour following worship.
Save these dates and join fellow Morningsiders as we recognize Walter's significant contributions to our worship experience and to the ministry of Morningside Presbyterian Church since 1990.
SANCTUARY FLOWERS
A flower calendar is posted on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Session Room, and if you wish to give flowers in honor or in memory of a loved one, we invite you to write your name and phone number next to the desired date. It is possible to share a date with other members if you want to give one arrangement or you may signup alone to give both arrangements. Contact Georgia Marshall, Head of Flower Guild, for more details (gkmarshall@gmail.com or 404-909-3477-cell). Contact Anna Best in the office by Tuesday of that week for bulletin recognition.
