PICK-A-PAN SUNDAY
Take home an empty pan from the narthex today and return it by 10 a.m. this Tuesday, August 10 with the requested food to join us in providing lunch to 45 men attending the Common Ground program at Atlanta AIDS Faith & Health.
BAG LUNCHES AFTER WORSHIP
Today MPC launches its ‘Bread for the Journey’ initiative. Meet in Fellowship Hall and while enjoying snacks, help to bag lunches that will go to the men at Clifton Sanctuary Ministries. There will also be an opportunity to bag some non-perishables that you can take with you to hand out as needed. Children are welcome to help with their parents. In coming months, we will grow this program, so watch for more details.
LYDIA CIRCLE
Lydia Circle will meet Thursday, August 12 from 7-9 at the home of Tara Parrish, 1206 Cumberland Rd. 30306. We will reconnect from the summer and discuss our plans for the upcoming year. Please join us. RSVP to taraparrish@bellsouth.net.
COUPLES GROUP
The Couples Group will gather at D.B.A. Barbeque in Virginia Highlands on Friday, August 13. If you would like to be part of this group, please contact Alan and Kathy Bremer at kathydaybremer@gmail.com.
YOUNG ADULTS CELEBRATE SUMMER WITH A DRIVE-IN MOVIE
Experience one of Atlanta's hidden treasures -- the Starlight Six Drive-in theater on Moreland Avenue -- with the Young Adults next Saturday, August 14. We'll enjoy a picnic dinner together before the movie starts. RSVP to Lisa Harris at Lisa.S.Harris@gmail.com.
KICK OFF THE SCHOOL YEAR
All are welcome to a light breakfast and fun activities on the front lawn at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, August 15 as we kick off the school year. Ms. Sue will share Bible stories, Jonah the Whale will make an appearance and much more. We will then start our Sunday school year by dedicating the students, teachers and volunteers during worship. All children are invited to “move up” to their new classes starting on this date. Contact Program Director Melinda Sandkam with any questions.
ADULT STUDIES THIS FALL
Beginning next Sunday and through Advent, the Discipleship Ministry Team has prepared excellent study opportunities for all adults at MPC. Each Sunday at 9:45a.m. there will be two offerings -- one focused on the Bible and what it means for us today and the other focused on issues faced by Christians in the 21st century. The Morningside Bible Class will meet in Room 201 and the Faith Issues Class will meet in the Session Room. The Menu for all of these opportunities is available in the Narthex. Pick one up today!
FALL SERMON SERIES
Next Sunday, Chris Henry will begin a five-week sermon series on Burning Questions for 21st Century Christians. Each week's sermon will consider one of the most pressing questions that Christians face as we seek to live out our faith in the contemporary world. Next week, we begin with the question, "Can Christians be Spiritual but not Religious?" May we all grow deeper in faith this fall as together we seek to understand how God speaks in our time and place.
THORNWELL OFFERING
Next Sunday, August 15, we invite you to participate in a special offering for Thornwell Home for Children in Clinton, South Carolina. This Presbyterian outreach serves at least 100 children each year from toddlers to teenagers. Some stay for only a few months, others grow up at Thornwell.
PRESBYTERY FALL LEADERSHIP EVENT
All are invited to attend the annual Presbytery Fall Leadership Event, which takes place on Saturday, August 21 at Trinity Presbyterian Church and begins with worship and a dialogue sermon preached by Revs. Sara Hayden and Billy Honor. Morning and afternoon workshops are offered in a wide range of topics for teachers, parents, youth leaders, Bible Study leaders, and those in church leadership positions. Cost for this event is $20 and includes lunch. For more information, contact Chris Henry. Registration deadline is August 10th.
CHURCH RETREAT TO MONTREAT
Thirty-five Morningsiders plan to attend our church retreat November 19-21, and we hope you will too! Our July deadline has passed but registrations are still being accepted. For information, contact Sarah Brownlee at rsbrownlee1046@att.net.
