* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 220 All People That on Earth Do Dwell
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God our Creator, you made us in your image so that we may love and be loved
by you. You call us into right relationship with other people and all the world
so that we may be channels of your peace. We sometimes forget who you made
us to be. We do not love you with our whole hearts and minds. We do not love
others as we love ourselves. By our actions and inactions, by our words and silence,
we turn away from you. As a people we fail to live together with justice
and compassion to which you call us. Forgive us, we pray, and turn us toward
you from this day forward. We turn to you in silent prayer....
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 280)
The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.
* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children ages 2-11 are invited to leave after the Baptisms for special classes. Three through five-year-olds

THE CHORAL RESPONSE This is the Fountain of Life Curt Oliver
THE FIRST LESSON Isaiah 56:6-8 David York
(page 645 in the pew Bible)
THE ANTHEM Thou All Transcendent Deity Palestrina
Thou all transcendent Deity, enshrined in hidden mystery, whose majesty no eye may see,
our hearts in wonder turn to Thee. Our hearts in stillness wait for Thee. Thou all in- dwelling
mystery, the life of all on land and sea, of bird and flower, all one with Thee. Our hearts
in stillness wait for Thee. Open our hearts to welcome Thee. Amen.
THE SECOND LESSON John 3:1-17 (page 88 in the pew Bible)
THE SERMON Burning Questions for 21st Century Christians Christopher Henry
Sermon II: "Who Will Be Saved? A Theology of World Religions"
Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world,
but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:17
* THE HYMN 269 O God of Bethel, by Whose Hand
* THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH - from the Iona Abbey Community of Scotland
With the whole church, we affirm that we are made in God's image,
befriended by Christ, and empowered by the Spirit. With people everywhere,
we affirm God's goodness at the heart of humanity, planted more deeply than
all that is wrong. With all creation, we celebrate the miracle and wonder of
life, the unfolding purposes of God, forever at work in ourselves and the
world. Amen.
THE OFFERTORY Chichester Psalms (3rd movement-Adonai, Adonai) Leonard Bernstein
(sung in Hebrew)
Lord, Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty, neither do I exercise myself in
great matters or in things too wonderful for me. Surely I have calmed and quieted myself, as
a child that is weaned of his mother, my soul is even as a weaned child. Let Israel hope in the
Lord from henceforth and forever. Behold how good, and how pleasant it is, for brethren to
dwell together in unity. - from Psalm 131; Psalm 133, v.1
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Tune-Hymn 455)
Eternal are your mercies, God; your truth stands ever high and broad: Alleluia!
Alleluia! Your praise shall sound from shore to shore till suns shall rise
and set no more. Alleluia, alleluia!
* THE HYMN 412 Eternal God, Whose Power Upholds (verses 1, 2, and 4)
* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
* THE CHORAL RESPONSE Great Lord God! Thy Kingdom Shall Endure Handel
