THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
"To know what you prefer instead of humbly saying 'Amen' to what the world tells you you ought to prefer, is to have kept your soul alive."
~Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894)

THEOLOGY ON TAP
The first gathering of the fall is set for tonight at 7 p.m. at the home of Van Crisco. The topic will be "Personal Transformation and the God You Understand: Lessons Learned from Addiction and Recovery" with special guest Richard LaMadeleine, a retired Catholic priest. Please join us.

ONE GRAY HAIR LUNCHEON
There is still time to RSVP to Sarah Brownlee (rsbrownlee1046@att.net) for this Wednesday's luncheon. This month we are fortunate to have Lynn Coulter as our guest speaker. Lynn is a freelance journalist and author of several books (her latest to be published in Spring 2011). Come and enjoy what Lynn has to say!

BIBLE AND BRUNCH
We begin a new monthly event at Morningside that combines Bible study and fellowship. Our first "Bible and Brunch" program takes place this Thursday, September 16, at 10 a.m. All members and friends are invited to Room 201 for a study of the Letter to the Ephesians. All who are interested in sharing brunch following the program will travel together to a local restaurant for table fellowship. Plan to join us!

HOMES (Home Owner Maintenance & Enhancement for Seniors)
MPC is signed up with HOMES to work this Saturday, September 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help elderly people still living in their own home with simple maintenance and yard work. For more information contact Lloyd Prince (lloydprince@comcast.net) or Jack Klotz (james.klotz@flyasa.com).

Fall Sermon Series
This Sunday, Chris Henry concludes the sermon series on Burning Questions for 21st Century Christians with the question, "Is Money the Root of All Evil?"

Help Fill "Second Suitcase" for Haiti Pilgrimage
Each of our 14 volunteers on the Haiti Pilgrimage will carry a "second suitcase" filled with items for our friends at St. Joseph's Home for Boys, where our volunteers will work and live while in Haiti (October 9-15). Look for a list of suggested donation items next to the "second suitcase" in the welcome center. Contact Tony Fishpaw at tonyfishpaw@me.com with questions.

DR. FRED CRADDOCK AT MORNINGSIDE SEPTEMBER 26
Make plans to be in worship on Sunday, September 26 when our guest preacher will be the Reverend Dr. Fred B. Craddock, Bandy Professor of Preaching and New Testament Emeritus at Candler School of Theology. Dr. Craddock is a world-renowned author, teacher, preacher, theologian, and storyteller.

Did you know...
...that many a day one might find heirloom tomatoes sitting on their desk waiting for them to arrive at work? While the tomatoes don't look like ones you find in the grocery, they have a heavenly taste! Heirlooms are a variety passed down through several generations of a family because of it's valued characteristics. Thanks to our MPC members with the green thumbs!
