WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY
This morning, along with Christian communities all over the globe, we observe World Communion Sunday. This annual celebration originated in 1936 when a group of Presbyterian ministers gathered for prayer and conversation about the role of the church in a time of economic upheaval and worldwide instability. Their hope was to emphasize the unity of the church and of its mission throughout the world. Today, as we celebrate the sacrament of the Lord's Supper, we are reminded of that unity and of our call to give witness to Christ's reconciling love throughout the world.
COMMISSIONING OF HAITI MISSION TEAM
As part of worship this morning, we will commission the fourteen Morningside members who will depart on Saturday, October 9th for a week-long pilgrimage to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Keep these members in your prayers in the weeks ahead, as they represent our congregation's mission, offer compassionate aid, and demonstrate our unity in the body of Christ.
PEACEMAKING OFFERING TODAY
As part of World Communion Sunday, Morningside joins efforts with more than 4500 Presbyterian churches to support the Peacemaking Offering. This special offering was created in 1980 to support efforts of the Presbyterian Church to live out a deeper commitment to peacemaking as part of our faithfulness to God. Please consider a gift to this worthy cause.
CONTINUING THE CONVERSATION
After worship today we will have a chance to share further thoughts on the sermon topic in the Fellowship Hall. Questions and comments from you, the congregation, will be the focus. A light lunch will be available prior to the conversation. Childcare provided in Room 105.
LOVING GOD'S CREATION
The 2nd and 3rd grade fall outing is a trip to Morningside Nature Preserve to pick up litter after worship today. Bring your lunch down to meet Shavon Starling-Louis in Room 003 for our adventure from 12:15 to 2 p.m.
THEOLOGY ON TAP
Men of Morningside, be sure your calendars are marked for Theology on Tap, this Tuesday, October 5 at 7:00p.m. We will gather at the home of Todd McDonald (835 Rowland Street, Clarkston, 30021). Topic: "Why the Bible?" We'll discuss the purpose and value of scripture in the contemporary church, as well as the diverse ways in which the Bible has been interpreted. The food will be good and the conversation is sure to be lively. Make plans to be there! RSVP to Chris Henry.
SERVICE OF WORSHIP AND CELEBRATION
This Thursday, October 7, at 7 p.m. Morningside will host a worship service to kick off Atlanta's annual Pride Festival. The service is sponsored by the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta's Committee for Inclusion and the preacher will be Lisa Larges. Please plan to join us in welcoming friends from around Atlanta as we worship God and celebrate our diverse community. For more information about the Committee for Inclusion's Pride events, contact Collier Maxwell.

HABITAT INTERFAITH BUILD
Once again, MPC is participating in Atlanta Habitat for Humanity's Interfaith Build. As part of the Presbytery's Peacemaking Committee, we will join forces with people from many different faith traditions to make affordable housing a reality for one Atlanta family.
