Throughout October, the Faith and Issues class will explore some of the key questions of faith that we encounter. We welcome guest teacher and Columbia Seminary professor David Bartlett, who leads a session on "How do we know Jesus was divine? How accurate are the Gospel accounts of his life?" This class meets in the Session Room Sundays at 9:45 a.m.

THEOLOGY ON TAP
Men of Morningside will gather tonight at 7 p.m. for Theology on Tap at the home of Todd McDonald (835 Rowland Street, Clarkston, 30021). Topic: "Why the Bible?" We'll discuss the purpose and value of scripture in the contemporary church, as well as the diverse ways in which the Bible has been interpreted. The food will be good and the conversation is sure to be lively. Make plans to be there!
SERVICE OF WORSHIP AND CELEBRATION
This Thursday, October 7, at 7 p.m. Morningside will host a worship service to kick off Atlanta's annual Pride Festival. The service is sponsored by the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta's Committee for Inclusion and the preacher will be Lisa Larges. Please plan to join us in welcoming friends from around Atlanta as we worship God and celebrate our diverse community. For more information about the Committee for Inclusion's Pride events, contact Collier Maxwell.
LAST CHANCE - FILL "Second Suitcase" for Haiti
Donated items are needed to fill a "second suitcase" with items for our friends at St. Joseph's Home for Boys, where our volunteers will work and live while in Haiti (Oct. 9-15). Look for a list of suggested items next to the "second suitcase" in the welcome center. Contact Tony Fishpaw with questions.
Distinguished Teacher Comes to Morningside - October 10
Plan to join Dr. David Bartlett at 9:45 a.m. this Sunday as he leads a discussion on a question asked by many Christians, "How do we know Jesus was divine?" Bartlett, a renowned New Testament scholar, brings humor and down-to-earth talk about the Christian faith. See you there!
New Member Sunday - October 17
If you have been thinking about joining Morningside Church, October 17 is a great time to do it! Plan on coming to the Inquirers' Class that Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in the Session Room. The Session will meet immediately afterward to receive new members. Contact Chris Henry at christopher.andrew.henry@gmail.com or 404.876.7396 to let him know of your interest.
FUNDERBALL
"Groove on over to the 5th Annual Funderball on Saturday, October 16 at 7 p.m. at the Warren City Club in Virginia Highland. Funderball is a casual cocktail party featuring refreshments and a fabulous silent auction. All funders will have a ball and more importantly, the donated funds will ensure the continuation of our wonderful MPP enrichment programs including music, science, Yoga and Spanish. If you have any questions, please contact Dawn Bell at dm_bell@yahoo.com or 404.228.7859. We hope to see you there!"
SIX STAR
The Six Star Refugee Partnership is sponsoring a new family in October, and we are in need of furniture for their apartment (sofas, dressers and chest of drawers, queen and twin headboards and bed frames, table and chairs, etc). If you have something to donate, contact Holly Campbell at hollycampbell1@gmail.com or Betsy Armstrong at jimbetsy30338@yahoo.com.
MITTEN TREE
We will collect mittens, gloves, scarves and hats for children through age 5 who attend Our House. This preschool in Decatur serves children who are facing homelessness. Join with our own preschool community in making sure all these children have something warm to wear before the first frost. The "mitten tree" will be at the preschool entrance through October 29.
