PICK-A-PAN SUNDAY
Take home an empty pan from the narthex today and return it by 10 a.m. this Tuesday, October 12 with the requested food to join us in providing lunch to 45 men attending the Common Ground program at Atlanta AIDS Faith & Health.
HAITI PILGRIMAGE
Fourteen Morningside members have arrived in Port-au-Prince, Haiti for a week-long pilgrimage. Keep these members in your prayers throughout the week as they represent our congregation's mission, offer compassionate aid, and demonstrate our unity in the body of Christ.
WALTER HUFF- 20TH ANNIVERSARY EVENTS
A full weekend is ahead, celebrating 20 years of music at Morningside with Walter Huff, our organist/choirmaster. Following a festive dinner on October 16 at Druid Hills Golf Club, Sunday’s service (October 17) will be full of special music from the Chancel Choir, including Rutter’s The Lord Is My Shepherd (with Ann Lillya, oboist), Haugen’s You Are Salt for the Earth, and Bach’s Dona Nobis Pacem from Mass in B Minor (performed by the choir and numerous choir alumni). A reception will follow after church. Don’t miss this meaningful weekend!
NEW MEMBER SUNDAY - OCTOBER 17
If you have been thinking about joining Morningside Church, next Sunday is a great time to do it! Plan on coming to the Inquirers' Class this Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in the pastor’s office. BIBLE AND BRUNCH - OCTOBER 21
This fall, we have begun a new monthly event at Morningside that combines Bible study and fellowship. On Thursday, October 21, at 10 a.m., you are invited to gather in Room 201 for a study of Ephesians 2:1-22, a powerful call to unity and mission. Childcare provided. After the study, we'll gather for brunch at a local restaurant. All are welcome!
YOUNG ADULTS VOLUNTEER TO BENEFIT OUR HOUSE!
Want to spend a fun night out on the town volunteering for a great cause with other Morningside Young Adults? The "Our House, Our Dreams" Fall Fantasy Event to benefit Our House will be held Saturday, October 23, at the Miller-Ward Alumni House on Emory’s campus. Our House is a child care and support center for homeless families. Joanna Adams, founding board member of Our House, is the honorary chair of the event. Our House needs volunteers to help with greeting, registration, and the silent and live auctions. Several volunteer shifts are available, so you can enjoy the party before or after your shift. THANKSGIVING GATHERING PLANS UNDERWAY
Volunteers are needed for the annual Thanksgiving Gathering. This event is a great outreach for our preschoolers and their parents and will be held on Monday, November 8, 5:30-6:45 p.m. Games, music and dinner are featured, and help is needed serving food (meal provided) and leading activities. HABITAT INTERFAITH BUILD
As part of the Presbytery's Peacemaking Committee, we will join forces with people from many different faith traditions to make affordable housing a reality for one Atlanta family. Hindus, Jews, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists from all over the Metro Atlanta area will build every Sunday through November 21. An Interfaith worship service will start off each build day. CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE
Bible Class - A Minority Report from the Major Prophets
Next Sunday the Morningside Bible Class will conclude its series on the four major prophets of the Old Testament with a study of the book of Daniel. This class meets Sundays at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201, and all are welcome.
Faith and Issues Class - Questions Christians Ask
Throughout October, the Faith and Issues class will explore some key questions of faith that we encounter. Next Sunday, we welcome guest teacher and Columbia Seminary professor George Stroup, who will lead a session on the question, "Why do Christians use the cross as our symbol when we're really all about the resurrection?" This class meets Sundays at 9:45 a.m. in the Session Room.
Children’s Classes
Today, the Preschool class will wonder about God’s promise to Abraham as they hear Count the Stars! Younger Elementary children will learn about the Prophet Amos who reminded the Israelites that loving and worshipping God isn’t all God wants. Older Elementary children will respond to Amos’ message by talking about how we are to respect and help others.
