FLOWERS THIS SUNDAY

The flowers in the sanctuary are given by Charlsie Woolley to the glory of God and in honor of Mary Ann Woolley Cadiente’s and Lily Brooks Woolley’s birthdays on October 14, and in memory of Dan Woolley who died October 14.

LAY LITURGIST

In keeping with the Presbyterian tenet of the priesthood of all believers, Morningside maintains a Lay Liturgy Team.  Our lay reader this morning is David York.

HAITI PILGRIMAGE

The fourteen Morningside members who have returned from a week-long pilgrimage to Port-au-Prince, Haiti will share their experiences today after worship in Fellowship Hall.

WOMEN’S ROUNDTABLE-OCTOBER 25

Women's Roundtable will meet at the home of Amy Jarratt, 1697 N. Pelham Rd. tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. The speaker will be Belle Miller McMaster, professor emerita at Candler School of Theology, Emory University. Belle will talk about why the Presbyterian Church has a particular concern about government. This is a timely topic as America goes to vote. Plan to join us. Email the church at office@morningsidepc.org or call 404.876.7396 to let us know you are coming.

MORNINGSIDE PRESBYTERIAN PRESCHOOL

Please join our MPP families and friends at El Taco (1186 N. Highland, Avenue, 404.873.4656) this Tuesday, October 26. Our generous friends at Fifth Group Restaurants will donate 20% of the night’s proceeds to MPP! Dinner is served from 5-10 p.m. and be sure to mention to your hostess you are there in support of MPP. (If we have over 40 supporters, we will receive 20% from the entire restaurant sales that night.  If we have less than 40 supporters, we will receive 20% from our supporter’s sales.)

MITTENS FOR THE CHILDREN AT OUR HOUSE

This is the last week to join our preschool community in donating mittens, hats, gloves, and scarves for children through 5 years old that attend Our House preschool in Decatur.  Our House is a preschool for children facing homelessness.  Bring in items by this Friday, October 29, so that they can have them before the first frost.

DRESS UP EARLY

The children of MPC are invited to join in the fun at 9:45 a.m. next Sunday, October 31 by either coming dressed as someone from your favorite Bible story or choosing a costume once you arrive. (There are plenty of costumes here!)  Meet in Room 001 for lots of merriment.  RSVP to Melinda at msandkam@morningsidepc.org by Wednesday, October 27.

THEOLOGY ON TAP

Men of Morningside, be sure your calendars are marked for Theology on Tap, next Tuesday, November 2 at 7 p.m. We will gather at the home of Ken Sharpe (1700 Timberland Road, 30345). Topic: "The Future of the Faith." We'll discuss the place of the church, and of our church, in the contemporary world. The food will be good and the conversation is sure to be lively, make plans to be there!  RSVP to Chris Henry by Sunday, October 31.

IS PEACE WITH JUSTICE POSSIBLE IN ISRAEL/PALESTINE?

All are invited to this one-day conference with Palestinian and Israeli speakers, Carter Center staff members, and authors of the recent Presbyterian Church (USA) Middle East Study Committee report. The conference will be Saturday, November 6 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church.  Cost is $30 and includes lunch. To register, call 404.846.4395 or email fabu-akel@peachtreepres.org

YOUNG ADULTS FALL DINNER NOVEMBER 6

Join the Young Adults at the Garcia’s house on Saturday, November 6 at 6 p.m. for dinner and merriment! Miguel & Anna will provide the main course, so please plan to bring a side dish and beverage to share. Additionally, please bring canned goods to help us kick off our Atlanta Community Food Bank drive, which will officially begin November 14. We all have much to be thankful for, so let’s show our community how much MPC cares and do something to help our local neighbors! RSVP to Miguel & Anna at garcia.miguel@comcast.net or 404.909.0007.

CHURCH DIRECTORY PICTURES

Don’t miss a chance to get your picture taken this fall.  We’d love to start 2011 with a complete digital directory.  Sign up TODAY for an appointment on Sundays, November 7 or December 5 after worship in Room 201.  All that is needed is five minutes of your time and your smiling faces!

THANKSGIVING GATHERING PLANS UNDERWAY

Volunteers are needed for the annual Thanksgiving Gathering.  This event is a great outreach for our preschoolers and their parents and will be held on Monday, November 8, 5:30-6:45 p.m. Games, music and dinner will be featured. Sign up on the bulletin board outside the church office or contact Doug Self at doug@jdouglasliving.com.

HABITAT INTERFAITH BUILD

As part of the Presbytery's Peacemaking Committee, we are joining forces with people from many different faith traditions to make affordable housing a reality for one Atlanta family.  Hindus, Jews, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists from all over the Metro Atlanta area are building every Sunday through November 21. An Interfaith worship service starts off each build day.  Please contact Lynsley Tyler (lynsley@bellsouth.net) if you are interested in this unique opportunity--space is limited.

MPP

Show your school spirit by wearing our brand new Morningside Presbyterian Preschool t-shirts! We have our beautiful purple and gold logo on the front of a white, short-sleeved t-shirt in sizes from 3T, 4T, youth S through L, and adult S through XXL. T-shirts are $15 each, must be pre-paid and may be ordered by placing payment and order information in Sarah Tomaka’s box in the church office. Please indicate size, quantity and contact information.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE

Bible Class - Faithful Disagreement: Wrestling with Scripture in the Church

Next week, the Morningside Bible Class continues its series on the diverse interpretations of scripture in the church today. We will study 1 Corinthians 12-14 and discuss the ways in which we discern the movement of the Holy Spirit in the church today. This class meets Sundays at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201, and all are welcome.

Faith and Issues Class - Questions Christians Ask

Throughout October, the Faith and Issues class will be exploring some of the key questions of faith that we encounter. Next Sunday, Rev. Mary Miller Brueggemann leads a session on the question, "What difference does baptism make?" This class meets in the Session Room (103) each Sunday at 9:45 a.m.

Children’s Classes

Today the Preschool class will hear Plenty to Eat and discover how a famine reunites Joseph with his family.  The Younger Elementary Class will hear Isaiah’s prophesy that God will bring the exiled Israelites home. Older Elementary Classes will consider Isaiah’s prophesy, which announces that God’s love and promises are trustworthy.
