FLOWERS THIS SUNDAY

The flowers in the sanctuary are given by Leslie and Lloyd Prince in celebration of their wedding anniversary.

THEOLOGY ON TAP

Men of Morningside, be sure your calendars are marked for Theology on Tap, this Tuesday, November 2 at 7 p.m. We will gather at the home of Ken Sharpe (1700 Timberland Road, 30345). Topic: "The Future of the Faith." We'll discuss the place of the church, and of our church, in the contemporary world. The food will be good and the conversation is sure to be lively, make plans to be there!  RSVP to Chris Henry today.

IS PEACE WITH JUSTICE POSSIBLE IN ISRAEL/PALESTINE?

All are invited to this one-day conference with Palestinian and Israeli speakers, Carter Center staff members, and authors of the recent Presbyterian Church (USA) Middle East Study Committee report. The conference will be next Saturday, November 6 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church.  Cost is $30 and includes lunch. To register, call 404.846.4395 or email fabu-akel@peachtreepres.org

YOUNG ADULTS FALL DINNER NOVEMBER 6

Join the Young Adults at the Garcia’s house Saturday, November 6 at 6 p.m. for dinner and merriment! Miguel & Anna will provide the main course, so please plan to bring a side dish and beverage to share. Additionally, please bring canned goods to help us kick off our Atlanta Community Food Bank drive, which will officially begin November 14. We all have much to be thankful for, so let’s show our community how much MPC cares and do something to help our local neighbors! RSVP to Miguel & Anna at garcia.miguel@comcast.net or 404.909.0007.

CHURCH DIRECTORY PICTURES

Don’t miss a chance to get your picture taken this fall.  We’d love to start 2011 with a complete digital directory.  Sign up TODAY for an appointment on Sundays, November 7 or December 5 after worship in Room 201.  All that is needed is five minutes of your time and your smiling faces!

COOKBOOKS AND CHRISTMAS CARDS

Support the outreach programs of MPC with your purchase of a MPC Cookbook and a box of beautiful Christmas cards.  Shepherds from the Mission Committee will be selling these items before and after worship Nov. 7 through December 14.  The cookbooks make great hostess or teacher gifts wrapped in seasonal dish towels by the kids of Morningside.  The Christmas cards share the inspirational image of our sanctuary alight with candles on Christmas Eve.

THANKSGIVING GATHERING PLANS UNDERWAY

All are welcome to the annual Thanksgiving Gathering.  This event is an outreach to our preschool families and will be held on Monday, November 8, 5:30-6:45 p.m. There will be a delicious dinner with crafts and activities, and the Cherub Choir will sing.

BIG FUN-NOVEMBER 13

All elementary age children are invited to Big Fun on Saturday, November 13, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. here at MPC.  RSVP to Maggie Adams at magadams@gmail.com by Wednesday, November 10.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

The Session has called for a congregational meeting immediately following worship on Sunday, November 14. At this meeting we will elect a slate of elders and deacons who will serve three-year terms. We will also elect congregational representatives for the 2011 officer nominating committee.  Please plan to attend this important meeting.

SUNDAY FORUM: TAPPED OUT

Important questions about water security and our faithful stewardship of water resources will be discussed at our next Sunday Forum, after the congregational meeting in the Fellowship Hall on November 14. As a partner church with the Presbytery’s Earth Covenant Ministry, Morningside is hosting Tapped Out: The Drying Up of Atlanta. Riverkeeper Sally Bethea has produced a PowerPoint presentation that examines the causes of the water crisis in the Chattahoochee River watershed and offers practical solutions for citizens, business people, and policy-makers. Contact Sarah Tomaka for more information: sarah.tomaka@gmail.com.

HABITAT INTERFAITH BUILD

As part of the Presbytery's Peacemaking Committee, we are joining forces with people from many different faith traditions to make affordable housing a reality for one Atlanta family.  Hindus, Jews, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists from all over the Metro Atlanta area are building every Sunday through November 21. An Interfaith worship service starts off each build day.  Please contact Lynsley Tyler (lynsley@bellsouth.net) if you are interested in this unique opportunity--space is limited.

MPP

Show your school spirit by wearing our brand new Morningside Presbyterian Preschool t-shirts! We have our beautiful purple and gold logo on the front of a white, short-sleeved t-shirt in sizes from 3T, 4T, youth S through L, and adult S through XXL. T-shirts are $15 each, must be pre-paid and may be ordered by placing payment and order information in Sarah Tomaka’s box in the church office. Please indicate size, quantity and contact information.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE

Bible Class - Faithful Disagreement: Wrestling with Scripture in the Church

Next week, the Morningside Bible Class continues its series on the diverse interpretations of scripture in the church today. Next Sunday, we will study passages in First Timothy and discuss the qualifications for leadership in the church, a topic that is both timely and timeless. The Bible Class meets each Sunday at 9:45a.m. in Room 201, and all are welcome.

Faith and Issues Class - Questions Christians Ask

Next week, the Faith and Issues class begins a three week study on the great ends of the church. MPC member Dr. Mardee Rightmyer leads this series, which includes discussion on the meaning and purpose of our mission and ministry. This class meets in the Session Room (103) each Sunday at 9:45 a.m.

Children’s Classes

Today, the Preschool class will learn the wonderful way God kept Baby Moses safe as they listen to Safe in a Basket. The Younger Elementary Class will learn of Amos’ prophecy about Godly living. Older Elementary classes will look at Amos’ three principles for living as God’s people.
