THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, you pardon all who truly repent and turn to you. We humbly
confess our sins and ask your mercy. We have not loved you with a pure heart,
nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves. We have not done justice, loved
kindness, or walked humbly with you, our God. In your great compassion,
cleanse us from our sin. Create in us a clean heart, O God, and renew a right
spirit within us. Restore to us the joy of your salvation, we pray, through
Christ, our Lord. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE FIRST LESSON Jeremiah 29:10-14 (page 687 in the pew Bible)

THE ANTHEM In Every Age Janet Whitaker
Tami Giusto and Linda Rozakis, soloists
Long before the mountains came to be and the land and sea and stars of the night, through the
endless seasons of all time, you have always been, you will always be. In every age, O God, you
have been our refuge, you have been our hope. Teach us to make use of the time we have, to be
patient even as we wait, to embrace our every joy and pain. To sleep peacefully and to rise up
strong.

THE SECOND LESSON 1 Timothy 6:17-19 (page 199 in the pew Bible)

THE SERMONFaithful to the Future” Christopher Henry
…thus storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the
future, so that they may take hold of the life that really is life. 1 Timothy 6:19

* THE HYMN (422) AND THE OFFERING OF PLEDGES
God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending
(You are invited to come forward and place your pledge cards on the communion table during the singing of the hymn.)

* THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Heidelberg Catechism, Question One
Leader: What is your only comfort in life and in death?
People: That I am not my own, but belong-body and soul, in life and in
death-to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.

THE OFFERTORY On Jordan's Stormy Banks I Stand Rentz
On Jordan's stormy banks I stand, and cast a wishful eye to Canaan's fair and happy land, where
my possessions lie. O'er all those wide extended plains shines one eternal day when love forevermore
shall reign, and turn the night to day. There David stands with harp in hand as master of the
choir; ten thousand times was David blessed, the music rang with power. No fear or sorrows or distress
shall reach that blissful shore; all sickness, suffering, pain, and death are felt and feared no
more. I'm bound for the promised land; oh, who will come and go with me? I'm bound for the
promised land.

* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)

THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD'S SUPPER Robert Gray
