THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious and merciful God, you pardon all who truly repent and turn to you. We
humbly confess our sins and ask your mercy. We have not loved you with a pure
heart, nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves. We have not done justice,
loved kindness, or walked humbly with you, our God. Have mercy on us. In your
great compassion, cleanse us from our sin. Create in us a clean heart, O God, and
renew a right spirit within us. Restore to us the joy of your salvation and sustain us
with your Holy Spirit. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ANTHEM Lift Up Your Heads Michael Cox
Lift up your heads, O ye gates! And be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors and the King of Glory shall
come in. Who shall ascend unto the hill of the Lord? Or who shall stand in His holy place? He that
hath clean hands, and a pure heart. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness
from the God of his salvation. Lift up your heads, O ye gates!
- Psalm 24

THE SECOND LESSON Luke 23:33-43 (page 83 in the pew Bible)

THE SERMONRemember It’s All About Jesus” Rodger Nishioka

* THE HYMN 306 Fairest Lord Jesus

* THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from A Brief Statement of Faith)
In life and in death we belong to God.
Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit,
we trust in the one triune God,
the Holy One of Israel,
whom alone we worship and serve.
We trust in Jesus Christ,
fully human, fully God.
Jesus proclaimed the reign of God:
preaching good news to the poor
and release to the captives,
teaching by word and deed
and blessing the children,
healing the sick
and binding up the brokenhearted,
eating with outcasts,
forgiving sinners,
and calling all to repent and believe the gospel.
With believers in every time and place,
we rejoice that nothing in life or in death
can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
