Christopher Henry preaching

"It Matters"

Text:  Luke 4:16-22

 _______________________________________________________________________

THIS SUNDAY AT MORNINGSIDE

After worship today, we will celebrate Chris Henry's ministry with a pot-luck luncheon in the Fellowship Hall. Following lunch, we will pass the microphone around Fellowship Hall, so that all who wish to, may share a brief memory or words of appreciation. We will have note cards and pens available for those who want to share their thoughts with Chris in writing. It will be another memorable day at MPC!

MORNINGSIDE-MADE HOLIDAY SHOW AND SALE

Everything from oil paintings to cute stocking stuffers will be on sale in Fellowship Hall today from 12-4.  Come check out the Morningside Made Holiday Show and Sale for one-of-a-kind handmade gifts or something for yourself.  A portion of proceeds benefits our preschool.

CHURCH DIRECTORY PICTURES

If we still don’t have your picture for the new digital church directory, stop by Room 201 today. Last chance for 2010!

THEOLOGY ON TAP

Make plans to join dozens of other Morningside men this Tuesday, December 7, for our monthly Theology on Tap event. The dinner and discussion are hosted this month by Philip Hawkins (4291 Briarcliff Road, NE, 30345). We will meet at 7 p.m. for food and fellowship followed by a conversation on the topic: "Men of the PNC.” We'll discuss the recently concluded pastoral search and why members of the Pastor Nominating Committee are excited about MPC's future and its next pastor, Rev. Dr. Baron A. Mullis.

LYDIA CIRCLE

Lydia Circle will meet Thursday, December 9 from 7-9 at the home of Eleanor Attwood (1282 N. Morningside Dr., 30306).  We will have a White Elephant Gift Exchange.  For more information or to RSVP contact Tara Parrish.

YOUNG ADULT CHRISTMAS PARTY

It's time to celebrate the season with the Young Adults of Morningside! Pull out your best (or worst!) crazy Christmas sweater and join us at the home of Leslie and Lloyd Prince (91 Lakeview Drive, 30317) on Saturday, December 11, beginning at 7 p.m. The Princes will provide heavy hors d'oeuvres, and everyone is welcome to bring a beverage and dessert. We'll also have a white elephant gift exchange, so if you'd like to participate, please bring a gift under $10. Please let Leslie know if you plan to attend (qccleslie@aol.com).

PARKERS AND SHUTTLE DRIVERS NEEDED DECEMBER 12

Next Sunday, December 12, we will have our annual Christmas Music service.  As you are all aware, this event always draws a large crowd both from our membership as well as many visitors.  As part of our Evangelism Ministry, we want to offer shuttle rides into the parking lot due to the increased traffic.  In order to do so, we need volunteers to drive and others to direct parking.  Also, if you cannot participate yourself but would like to offer your automobile that would be very helpful.  Please contact Doug Self @ doug@jdouglasliving.com.

SKATING AND SINGING ON THE 12th

We have moved our ice skating outing to next Sunday, December 12. All 2nd-7th graders are invited to bring a sack lunch and $10 to enjoy the ice rink at Centennial Park 12:30-3:30. Contact Children’s Worship Leaders Shavon Starling-Louis and Heather Bardole to RSVP (and also to volunteer as a driver and chaperone). That evening, the children’s choir families will prepare and serve dinner for the men at the Druid Hills Night Shelter. After joining them for dinner and fellowship, the children will wish them a blessed Christmas in song. Contact Choir Mom Tamara Nix to participate.

ATLANTA COMMUNITY FOOD BANK

The ACFB Canned Food Drive will run through December 12.  Help us fill up the barrels that are throughout Morningside. ACFB is in need of canned fruits, vegetables, soups, fruit juices and peanut butter.

PAGEANT AND CAROL SING

All are welcome to the Christmas Pageant at 5 pm on Sunday, Dec. 19 in Fellowship Hall.  We will then continue with a soup and chili dinner (contact Melinda today if you can contribute a pot of one or the other) and a Carol Sing led by Walter Huff.  We will also collect winter coats, gloves, hats and scarves for the women at the Shearith Israel Shelter that evening.

DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR YOU

Copies of Our Daily Bread, a devotional guide for the winter season are available in the narthex and welcome center. The Evangelism Committee invites you to pick one up as you leave the sanctuary today.

SHARING YOUR GIFTS

Each of us has been given gifts by God to further the work of the church. As we look forward to the arrival of our new Senior Pastor, it’s a good time to consider what we can do for the work of MPC. If you haven't done so, pick up a copy of the Time and Talent Survey form in the narthex or go to our website and complete the form and submit it to the church office. Any questions contact Link Marx at fmarx25@yahoo.com or 404.323.9174.

COOKBOOKS AND CHRISTMAS CARDS

Support MPC’s outreach programs with your purchase of a MPC Cookbook and a box of beautiful MPC Christmas cards. Shepherds from the Mission Committee will sell these items through December 12.

CONGRATULATIONS TO:

MPC new members Amanda and Christopher Lewis, Jeff Raines, Tim Holbrook, and Monirah and Gary Womack who joined Sunday, November 28.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE

Adult Sunday School: Scripture and Song in Handel's Messiah

Throughout Advent, the adult Sunday school classes at Morningside will combine to study the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah. The class will be led by MPC member Elizabeth Rice, who has spent her life both teaching music and singing professionally.  We will focus both on the music Handel wrote for the Messiah as well as the Biblical texts that make up the libretto. What a wonderful way to prepare for Christmas, and our special music Sunday on December 12!  Come and join us in Room 201 each Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m.

Children’s Classes

Today, the Preschool Class will hear about the birth of Jesus. Elementary children will hear about Gabriel’s amazing message to Mary. Double Digits will be in worship.
