THE LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT WREATH Ann and John Watson
Unison Prayer:
God who comes to us through Jesus at Bethlehem, enable us to open our hearts
so that we might have Christ in us, that we may show Christ’s love in our
hospitality. We give you thanks for this time of waiting and preparation for the
coming of the Son of God. Amen.

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Loving God, you know our weaknesses. Fearful of the future, we forget what
you have done for us in the past. We see scarcity where you supply abundance.
We complain when conditions challenge us. We begrudge others their success,
allow envy to divide us, and live lives unworthy of the gospel. Generous God,
forgive us. Help us to remember your wonderful works, trust your gracious
provisions, seek out your presence, and strive to serve you well. Give us eyes
to see your love at work in the world. By the power of your Holy Spirit, renew
our minds, cleanse our spirits, and empower us to serve you faithfully and
trust you fully. Amen.

The gift we deliver, the gift we receive is the living spirit Mary did conceive, the royal gift
of love, incandescent flame is given to all mankind in His name. Joy, joy, it is our true delight
to receive on this wondrous night. A boy-child to Mary is born and His light will shine
on beyond the dawn.

in the same way and with the same seriousness is he also God's mighty claim
upon our whole life. Amen.
