December 12, 2010
3rd Sunday of Advent
9:30 a.m. Coffee and Conversation
9:45 a.m. Church School for all ages
ADULT: Throughout Advent, the adult Sunday school classes at Morningside will combine to study the Christmas portion of Handel's Messiah. The class will be led by MPC member Elizabeth Rice, who has spent her life both teaching music, and singing professionally. We will focus both on the music Handel wrote for the Messiah as well as the Biblical texts that make up the libretto. What a wonderful way to prepare for Christmas, and our special music this Sunday! Come and join us in Room 201 each Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m.
CHILDREN: Preschool Children will hear how the Shepherds responded to the news of Jesus' birth. Elementary Classes and Double Digits will learn about Gabriel's visit to Joseph, and consider his opportunity to participate in God's plan to bring a Savior into the world.
11:00 a.m. Worship
Special Music Sunday
Selections from: G.F. Handel's Messiah (Christmas Portion)
THE CHANCEL CHOIR - Walter Huff, Organist / Choirmaster
12:00 p.m. Reception in the Fellowship Hall
12:30 p.m. 2nd-7th Graders Ice Skating; New Elders and Deacons training
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
"Jesus is the one who said that the same life-giving, life-renewing, community-creating Spirit who dwelt in him, and whom he promised to his followers is a Spirit that "blows where it wills," a Spirit not trapped in or possessed by Christians and their church but is loose in the world to create not only new Christians but a whole new humanity."
~Shirley Guthrie
THEOLOGY ON TAP TONIGHT!
Men of Morningside, be sure to join us for Theology on Tap tonight at 7 p.m. at the home of Phillip Hawkins (4291 Briarcliff Road, NE, 30345). Topic: "Men of the PNC." We'll discuss the recently concluded pastoral search and why members of the pastor nominating committee are excited about MPC's future and its next pastor, Rev. Dr. Baron A. Mullis. The food will be good and the conversation will be great!
A THANK YOU LETTER
Dear friends at Morningside Presbyterian Church - Thank you for your donation of $1,525 given in honor of Rev. Christopher Henry. We are investing $1,000 of that donation toward our post earthquake rebuilding at St. Joseph's. The remaining $525 will be used to augment our Christmas celebration fund for St. Joseph's, Wings of Hope and Trinity House. We continue to celebrate our growing relationship with your faith community, and we are reminded that it was Rev. Christopher who connected us to you. Clearly Christopher is God's gift to all of us. Peace and all that is good!--Michael
GIVING CREDIT WHERE DUE
A number of Morningsiders choose to fulfill their annual pledge or make special gifts to Morningside through the gift of stock or other securities rather than cash. We are always happy to accept such gifts; we ask only that you notify MPC Treasurer Randy Parrish when you initiate a transfer of securities so that we can make sure you receive proper credit for your gift. Should you have questions or wish to make a gift of securities, please e-mail Randall.parrish@inginvestment.com or call 770.690.4745. We thank you for your continuing support of the work and ministry of Morningside.
