THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
"In his holy flirtation with the world, God sometimes drops a handkerchief. Those handkerchiefs are called saints."
~Frederich Buechner

BIBLE AND BRUNCH GROUP WITH REV. BRUEGGEMANN
Join us for Bible and Brunch this Thursday, December 16, 10 a.m. in Room 201 for a study of two Psalms in preparation for Christmas. Our texts are Psalm 88 and 46 - each an example of a particular type of psalm that can be used for personal meditation or in congregational worship. Child care will be provided.

GUEST PREACHER THIS SUNDAY
We welcome Rev. Randy Calvo to Morningside Presbyterian Church as our guest preacher this Sunday. Rev. Calvo is the Director of Alumni/ae and Church Relations for Columbia Theological Seminary.

Pageant and Carol Sing
All are welcome to the Christmas Pageant at 5 p.m. this Sunday, December 19 in Fellowship Hall. We will then continue with a soup and chili dinner (contact Carolyn Morton (404.760.9984/carolynmorton@bellsouth.net) today if you can contribute a pot of one or the other, or can assist with set-up, serving or clean-up) and a Carol Sing led by Walter Huff. We will also collect winter coats, gloves, hats and scarves for the women at the Shearith Israel Shelter that evening. The shelter is currently full with 13 women. Help us outfit them for this cold weather.

RUTHLYN NEWELL
Ruthlyn Newell, MPC member and Clerk of Session, is at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas for treatment until mid-January, and she would like to hear from folks about what's happening with them. Ruthlyn's address is Jesse H. Jones Rotary House Hotel, 1600 Holcombe Blvd., Room 906, Houston, TX 77030. Her e-mail is Ruthlyn@comcast.net, and her phone number is 713.790.1600.

REFLECTIONS FOR ANY SEASON
Though not strictly an Advent devotional, you will enjoy "Always Room in the Inn," the reflections of a woman who visited St. Joseph's Home for Boys in Haiti in the days leading up to Christmas. Pick one up today from the Narthex or Welcome Center. Suggested donation is $10.

TAI CHI
Tai Chi instruction and practice at MPC resumes January 12, 2011. Instruction by Bob Wells and Doris Williams will be at 2 p.m. weekly in the Fellowship Hall for ten weeks. Building on the fall class, focus will be on 24 forms. For further information or to sign up, contact Barbara Ray, 404.876.7892 or barbray@mindspring.com.

GIVING CREDIT WHERE DUE
A number of Morningsiders choose to fulfill their annual pledge or make special gifts to Morningside through the gift of stock or other securities rather than cash. We are always happy to accept such gifts; we ask only that you notify MPC Treasurer Randy Parrish when you initiate a transfer of securities so that we can make sure you receive proper credit for your gift. Should you have questions or wish to make a gift of securities, please e-mail Randall.parrish@inginvestment.com or call 770.690.4745. We thank you for your continuing support of the work and ministry of Morningside.
