FIRST SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS

Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

Leader: The heralds of peace are on the mountains, bringing good news: God reigns!
People: All the ends of the earth shall see God’s glory.
Leader: Let us lift up our voices and break into singing:
People: “Joy to the world, the Lord is come.”

THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of glory, you sent your Son that we might have new life. As we celebrate
Jesus’ birth, we ask you to change us and heal us. Keep us from neglecting to
honor Jesus with gifts of mercy and kindness. Keep us from failing to welcome
your perfect love with love for each other. Keep us from forgetting the call of the
needy and the cry of the world for peace. We give you thanks for the love of Jesus,
our friend, who lives among us. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy
Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again
from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of
God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick
and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of
saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.
Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the
kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
