Baron Mullis preaching

"The Essentials"

Texts: Micah 6:1-8; Matthew 5:1-12

 _______________________________________________________________________

THANK YOU

Many, many thanks to all who worked so hard to make Sunday’s service the wonderful experience of worship that it was.  We had to place chairs in the aisles to accommodate our crowd!  It was wonderful to gather in worship and continue in fellowship in the name of Jesus Christ on this much anticipated day.                 - Baron Mullis

GIFT CARDS FOR VALENTINES' DAY

Donate a $10 gift card for CVS or Target, etc. to be given to the women at Shearith Israel Shelter for Valentines’ Day.  Bring them to the gift bag on mission bulletin board through next Sunday, February 6.

THEOLOGY ON TAP

Men of Morningside are invited to attend Theology on Tap gathering at the home of Greg Morton (2973 W. Roxboro Rd. 30324) for dinner and conversation with our new pastor Baron Mullis this Tuesday, February 1 at 7 p.m.  RSVP to the church office.

YOUNG ADULTS MIX & MINGLE FEBRUARY 5

Join us for a casual gathering at the home of Tony Fishpaw and Kent Balch (1391 Rock Springs Circle, 30306) this Saturday, February 5, at 6:30 p.m. We'll welcome Baron Mullis, so don't miss this opportunity to get to know our new pastor! Please bring an appetizer to share and your favorite beverage. RSVP to tonyfishpaw@me.com.

FEBRUARY 6 ISN'T JUST THE SUPER BOWL

More than 20 years ago, Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group: “Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us to be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat.”  Since that day, more than $71 million has been raised for local charities across the country.  The Double Digits of Morningside (4th-7th graders) invite everyone to bring $2 to give to the Souper Bowl offering next Sunday, February 6.  MPC will give its offering to Atlanta Community Food Bank.

CONGREGATIONAL LUNCH

Break bread with our new pastor, Baron Mullis!  Meet in Fellowship Hall for lunch following worship next Sunday, February 6.  RSVP to the church office today.  Contact Brad Odom at jbradleyodom@gmail.com, if you are able to help with set up, serving or clean up.  Suggested donation for lunch: adults $10, children $5.

UNDERSTOOD AND OFTEN MISUNDERSTOOD!

The time to gain awareness of the Covenant Network and its ministry on inclusion and the work they are doing this year to support Amendment 10-A is on Monday, February 7, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian (3003 Howell Mill Rd., Atl., 30327).  Pastors, Elders, Deacons, friends, and any interested persons are invited. A pizza dinner will be provided. If you will be attending, RSVP to Brad Odom at jbradleyodom@gmail.com. (Our new pastor Baron Mullis plans to be in attendance.)

The day begins with a continental breakfast at Central Presbyterian at 9 a.m., followed by break-out sessions on immigration, health care, and the state budget from 9:30 to 10 a.m., then head across the street to the capitol to observe the General Assembly in session, visit a legislator's office, or attend a committee meeting. CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE

Adult Sunday School Classes

Did you know that Morningside’s retired pastor, Joanna Adams, helped write our denomination’s newest confession of faith?  How does it speak to the church’s mission in the 21st Century? Did you know that in February, the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta will vote on whether to add a new statement to our Book of Confessions?  What does the Belhar Confession, written in response to the South African apartheid regime infecting even the church, have to say about the unity of the church amid the controversies of today? Find out more with the Morningside Bible Class and Jack & James Klotz in the final installment of I Confess! What We Say it Means to be Presbyterian, next Sunday, February 6 at 9:45 in Room 201.

Children’s Classes

Today, the Preschool Class will learn about another sick child who needed Jesus’ help. Elementary classes continue their study of the Sermon on the Mount. Younger children will focus on salt and light. The Older Elementary Class and Double Digits will consider how others will know we are Jesus’ followers.
