Lord endures forever!

People: The Lord be praised!
- Psalm 117
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 361 How Firm a Foundation (verses 1 through 5)
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
You have told us what is good, O God. Your hopes for us are clear. And yet we
live as though it is unclear what you would have us do. We live as though we are
not the recipients of grace upon grace. We have withheld what is not our own.
We have judged where it was not our place. We have sinned by what we have
done and what we have failed to do. We know that we have sinned. We seek your
forgiveness and your reconciliation and strength that we may follow in the way
you have led. So cleanse us and guide us. We make this and all our prayers in reliance
upon our faithful savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: The Grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all, training us to renounce
impiety and worldly passions, and in the present age to live lives that are selfcontrolled,
upright, and godly, while we wait for the blessed hope and the
manifestation of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
People: He it is who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all
iniquity and purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous
for good deeds.
Leader: Believe the Promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - Titus 2:11-14
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 280)
The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.
* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children ages 2-11 are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ for special classes. Three through five-yearolds
in Room 011; K - 1st grade in Room 001; 2nd - 3rd grade in Room 003; Double Digits in Room 005.
THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH
(Visitors and members are invited to sign the blue friendship register pad and pass it down the pew.)
THE FIRST LESSON Micah 6:1-8 (page 816 in the pew Bible)
THE ANTHEM Blessed Is the One Ronald Anderson
Blessed is the one who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law, he meditates
day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of living water that yields its fruit in due season,
and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. - Psalm 1
THE SECOND LESSON Matthew 5:1-12 (page 4 in the pew Bible)
THE SERMON “The Essentials” Baron Mullis
* THE HYMN 369 I’m Gonna Live So God Can Use Me
* THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
God’s redeeming work in Jesus Christ embraces the whole of man’s life: social
and cultural, economic and political, scientific and technological, individual and
corporate. It includes man’s natural environment as exploited and despoiled by
sin. It is the will of God that his purpose for human life shall be fulfilled under
the rule of Christ and all evil be banished from his creation.
Biblical visions and images of the rule of Christ, such as a heavenly city, a father’s
house, a new heaven and earth, a marriage feast, and an unending day culminate
in the image of the kingdom. The kingdom represents the triumph of God
over all that resists his will and disrupts his creation. Already God’s reign is present
as a ferment in the world, stirring hope in men and preparing the world to
receive its ultimate judgment and redemption.
- The Confession of 1967
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and
the glory, forever. Amen.
THE OFFERTORY Improvisation on ‘Old Hundredth’ Alice Jordan
* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)
* THE HYMN 522 Lord, When I Came Into This Life
* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
* THE CHORAL RESPONSE Blessed Are Wayne Watson
Blessed are the poor in spirit; God has faithfully revealed that the riches of the kingdom with
their souls in Christ are sealed. And to those of tender mercy, from them falls as gentle rain,
grace and kindness, sweet compassion; mercy given and mercy gained. Blessed are the true
peacemakers, with contentment for the fold, they cling to promises of heaven, working in the
field of souls.
