THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, you have called us and we confess we do not know sometimes
what that means. Where you have been clear that you want our whole selves,
we have been held back, thinking instead you might be satisfied with a halfmeasure.
Where you have told us what is required of us, we have substituted
easy piety. So forgive us when we cling to our own ideas about what your kingdom
looks like and open our minds to your vision for us. Through Jesus Christ
our Lord we pray. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation. The old has passed away; the
new has come.
People: All this is from God, who reconciled himself to us through Christ
and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
Leader: That is in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their
trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.
Believe the Promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - 2 Corinthians 5:17-19
