heavens and the earth?

heap, to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people.
Leader: He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children.
Praise the Lord!
People: Praise the Lord! We have come to worship God: Father, Son and
Holy Ghost.
- Psalm 113:5-9
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 416 Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Holy God, you are the same from age to age. In every age, your people have
sought to know you and to know your mind and your will for us. And in every
age, we have had times when what we have said and done reflected the way you
would have us live, and we have had times when what we have said and done
did not reflect the way you would have us live. Through it all, you are faithful
to us. And so we confess our failures, knowing that we rest in your abiding
goodness, assured of your love for us all. Hear our prayers as we make them in
Jesus’ name and for his sake. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: This is the message that we heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is
light and in him is no darkness at all.
People: If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in
darkness, we lie and do not do what is true. But if we walk in the
light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one
another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - 1 John 1:5-7
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 473)
For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth, and
friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild, Lord of all to thee we raise this
our hymn of grateful praise.

THE ANTHEM O God of Bethel Clifford Harker
(based on the Scottish tune Stracathro)
O God of Bethel, by whose hand Thy people still are fed, who through this weary pilgrimage hast
all Thy servants led. Our vows, our prayers, we now present before Thy throne of grace. God of
our fathers, be the God of their succeeding race. O spread Thy covering wings around, till our strivings
cease and at our Father’s loved abode, our souls arrive in peace.
THE SECOND LESSON Matthew 5:21-26; 38-42 (page 4 in the pew Bible, NT)
THE SERMON “You Have Heard It Was Said...” Baron Mullis
* THE HYMN 391 Take My Life and Let It Be (verses 1-4, 6)
* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy
Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from
the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the
Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of
saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.
Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power
and the glory, forever. Amen.
THE OFFERTORY God, the Almighty Gary Davidson
