THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
“Christianity is mainly wishful thinking. Dreams are wishful thinking. Children playing at being grown-up is wishful thinking. Interplanetary travel is wishful thinking. Sometimes wishing is the wings the truth comes true on. Sometimes the truth is what sets us wishing for it.” - Frederick Buechner
THEOLOGY ON TAP
Men of Morningside are invited to attend the Theology on Tap gathering at the home of Richard Brownlee (1046 Bellevue Drive NE) for dinner and conversation tonight at 7 p.m. Baron will lead a discussion about a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, "Where Have All the Presbyterians Gone?" Copies will be shared, and we will read and discuss. Come for good food and good conversation!
CHILDREN’S CHOIR PRACTICES RESUME THIS WEEK
Both the Cherub and Treble Choirs begin regular practices again this Wednesday, March 2 at 6 and 6:30 p.m. As we continue the search for our next Children’s Choir Director, we will welcome a number of Special Guest Directors. The choirs will sing in worship on Sunday, May 15 followed by an end of year picnic after worship.
CALL FOR MEMBERS OF THE 2011 RETREAT COMMITTEE
Since the date for this year’s retreat has moved up to October 14-16, we want to get started with our planning. The first meeting of the Retreat Committee will be this Sunday, March 6. If you are interested in serving on the committee, please join us at 12:45 p.m. in Baron's office. For more information, please contact Mary Chapman at mvchapman@bellsouth.net.
PANCAKES AND PAJAMA PARTY
All are invited to celebrate Shrove Tuesday at our annual MPC and Preschool Pancake Supper and Pajama Party on Tuesday, March 8, from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Enjoy dinner for the whole family while Ruby the Clown delights the children with his tricks and antics. Kids are invited to wear their favorite PJs. We continue our collection of new pajamas, socks and underwear for Threads, a children’s clothing ministry of All-Saints Episcopal Church. Please bring your donations to the Pancake Supper or place them in the Welcome Center baskets.
ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE
Plan to join us for our Ash Wednesday Service, March 9 at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. This solemn and sacred worship service marks the beginning of the season of Lent and includes the imposition of ashes. Childcare will be provided in Room 105.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD
MPC is looking for volunteers through April 2 for the Spring Habitat build. Sign up on the bulletin board across from the Session Room 103 or contact Lynsley Tyler at Lynsley@bellsouth.net to volunteer.
DID YOU KNOW...
