CALL FOR MEMBERS OF THE 2011 RETREAT COMMITTEE

Since the dates for the 2011 Morningside retreat have moved up from November to October 14-16, we want to get started with our planning.  Getting a good speaker is a high priority, and they get booked up quickly.  The first meeting of the Retreat Committee will be today.  If you are interested in serving on the committee, please join us at 12:45 p.m. in Baron's office. For more information, please contact Mary Chapman at mvchapman@bellsouth.net.

PICK A PAN SUNDAY

Take home an empty pan from the narthex today and return it by 10 a.m. this Tuesday, March 8 filled with the requested item to help feed 45 men attending the Common Ground program at AIDS Alliance for Faith and Health.

PANCAKES AND PAJAMA PARTY

All are invited to celebrate Shrove Tuesday at our annual MPC and Preschool Pancake Supper and Pajama Party this Tuesday, March 8, from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.  Kids are invited to wear their favorite PJs. Enjoy dinner for the whole family while Ruby the Clown delights the children with his tricks and antics. 

PAJAMAS FOR THREADS

Our collection of new pajamas, socks and underwear for Threads, a children’s clothing ministry of All-Saints Episcopal Church continues. Please place your donated items in the Welcome Center baskets or bring them to the Shrove Tuesday dinner.

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE

Please plan to join us for our Ash Wednesday Service, March 9 at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. This solemn and sacred worship service marks the beginning of the season of Lent and includes the imposition of ashes. Childcare will be provided in Room 105.

LYDIA CIRCLE

Lydia Circle will hold their next meeting Thursday, March 10. For more information or to RSVP contact Tara Parrish at taraparrish@bellsouth.net.

COFFEE & DESSERT WITH BARON

In the month of March, every MPC member will be invited to a gathering with our new pastor.  Most of them are 7:30-8:30 in evening, except for this upcoming Saturday, March 12, 3-4 p.m. in Decatur.  Though you will be invited to a location relatively close to where you live, you are welcome to attend a different one if it is a better time.  See the list of locations and dates on the website and be sure to RSVP so we know where to expect you!

MOTHER/DAUGHTER BEADWORK EVENING

Next Saturday, March 12 moms, mother-figures, and misses (2nd grade and older) will enjoy beadwork and mosaic-making, pizza and an intro to Calvin Center’s horse camp from 6 to 8 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME
Daylight Saving Time begins next Sunday, March 13. Remember to set your clock ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday, March 12.

HUNGER WALK 2011
MPC Double Digits will participate in this year’s Hunger Walk next Sunday, March 13. This 5k walk/run will raise money for local area food banks. Morningside’s designation is Intown Collaborative Ministries. The walk begins at 2 p.m. at Turner Field. For more information, contact Heather Bardole at hefbardole@gmail.com.

HELP FEED MEN AT DRUID HILLS NIGHT SHELTER

Please sign up on the mission bulletin board outside the Session Room to provide a dish next Sunday, March 13 to help feed 30 men staying at Druid Hills Night Shelter. Contact Curt Barrett with any questions at emailcurt@mindspring.com or 404.310.4665.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD

MPC is looking for volunteers through April 2 for the Spring Habitat build. Sign up on the bulletin board across from the Session Room 103 or contact Lynsley Tyler at Lynsley@bellsouth.net to volunteer or to obtain more information.

BIBLE & BRUNCH FIELD TRIPS

Mark your calendars now for the next Bible & Brunch field trip. The group visit the Al-Farooq Masjid Mosque on 14th Street on Thursday, March 17, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Childcare is provided at MPC from 9:30 to 11:45. Anyone who would like to go to lunch afterwards is welcome. RSVP to the church office at office@morningsidepc.org

COUPLES GROUP

All couples are invited to the next gathering of the Couples Group this Friday, March 11 at 7 p.m. The event will be hosted by Todd Brawner and Peter Clayton (425 Kensington Parc Drive, Avondale Estates)! Todd and Peter will be serving a pork loin roast and will have beverages on hand, so please bring an appetizer or side dish to share. ONE GRAY HAIR LUNCHEON

At noon on Wednesday, March 23, One Gray Hair will gather in Fellowship Hall for some Low Country food and a program by Joe Dabney. Joe is a noted author and retiree from Lockheed-Georgia Company who has written and published a number of books. YOUTH MISSION TRIP 2011

The youth at MPC (5th grade and older) are making plans for a June trip to the Global Village Experience at Heifer International in Perryville, Arkansas. For more information about the trip, contact Carolyn Morton at carolynmorton@bellsouth.net.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE

Adult Sunday School Classes

Join the Morningside Bible Class for a six-week series focusing on Christianity and the Arts, beginning next Sunday, March 13. We will discuss the intersection between faith and artistic expression by exploring different art genres. Starting with Morningside member, Sarah Tomaka, the emphasis will be on a historic survey of religious painting, sculpture and stained glass. The following weeks will include discussions on film, theatre, architecture, fiction and other artistic endeavors. This class meets each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201.

Children’s Classes

Today, Preschool children will hear A Wonderful Sight, a story about Jesus and a blind man. Elementary classes will study The Transfiguration, with an emphasis on learning more about Moses and Elijah. Double Digits will be in worship.
