* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 487 When Morning Gilds the Skies

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Holy God, you have called us. You have called us to a way of life set apart from
the ordinary. You have called us to be “a light to the nations.” You have called
us to grateful generosity, to faithful discipleship, to holy living. Yet in our sin,
we do not live out our calling. Our reasons are manifold: fear, selfishness, anxiety,
gluttony, lust, we cannot and need not name them all; you know our faults.
Yet in faith, we ask that you would forgive us once more, and remind us of our
holy calling, that we might show forth the light of the one who has called us out
of darkness, our Lord Jesus Christ, in whose name we make our prayer, Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.
People: Love has been perfected among us in this: that we have boldness
on the day of judgment, because as he is, so are we in this world.
Leader: There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with
punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love.
People: We love because he first loved us.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! 1 John 4:16b-18

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive

us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
