FLOWERS THIS SUNDAY
The flowers in the sanctuary are given to the glory of God and in thanksgiving for our pastor Baron Mullis by the Morningside congregation.
INSTALLATION SERVICE
This morning we would like to welcome to the Morningside pulpit our guest preacher, The Rev. Dr. Douglas Oldenburg, Moderator of the 210th General Assembly, along with members of the Installation Committee and The Presbytery of Greater Atlanta. Today we gather in worship for the Service of Installation of The Rev. Dr. Baron A. Mullis as pastor of Morningside Presbyterian Church. The Chancel Choir will offer Charles Gounod’s Sanctus featuring guest soloist Jeanné Brown.
WELCOME
We welcome Sarah and Gene Martin as our guest musicians again this morning. They have been friends of Morningside in recent years, filling in for our organist/choirmaster, Walter Huff, in times of his absence. Walter is presently serving as Chorus Master for two productions with the San Diego Opera.
COFFEE & DESSERT WITH BARON
In the month of March, every MPC member is invited to a gathering with our new pastor. Though you have been invited to a location relatively close to where you live, you are welcome to attend a different one if it is a better time. The last three are this week: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. See the list of locations and dates on the website and be sure to RSVP, so we know where to expect you!
WOMEN’S ROUNDTABLE
Tomorrow, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. Women’s Roundtable will gather at the home of Tara Parrish (1206 Cumberland Rd., 30306). All women of Morningside are welcome for dinner and conversation. RSVP to the church office (office@morningsidepc.org), if you would like to attend.
WALK FOR LENT
The Morningside community is invited to walk for an hour during Lent. There are varied dates, times and leaders. The next walks will be Tuesday, March 29, 9 a.m. and Thursday, March 31, 6:30 p.m. Check out the bulletin board and website for more information.
YOUTH MISSION TRIP 2011
The MPC Youth are making June plans for a trip to the Global Village Experience at Heifer International in Perryville, Arkansas. For more information, contact Carolyn Morton at carolynmorton@bellsouth.net. Registration deadline is April 1.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD
MPC is looking for volunteers for Saturday, April 2. If you have not yet been out to build, join us for the final day of Spring Build. Contact Lynsley Tyler at Lynsley@bellsouth.net to volunteer.
GIVING UPDATE
WEEK 3/20 YTD
Needed $13,845 $166,143
Received $ 9,723 $150,594
SUPPORT INTOWN COLLABORATIVE MINISTRIES
Please bring canned foods (especially canned meats and vegetables) and pop-top items to the Welcome Center baskets April 3-24 to support our homeless and nearly homeless neighbors. We also need 8 volunteers to work the food pantry Saturday, April 9, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information or to sign up, contact Shepherd Nancy Collins ncollins0209@gmail.com.
THEOLOGY ON TAP
On Tuesday, April 5 at 7 p.m. Theology on Tap will gather at the home of Ken Sharpe (1700 Timberland Road, 30345). You may ask yourself what does the baby Jesus have to do with Lent? Well, according to Dr. Thomas G. Long, a great deal. The men will be discussing Seasons' Greetings by Tom Long from the March 21-28, 2001 issue of The Christian Century. All men of Morningside are welcome for dinner and discussion. RSVP to the church office (office@morningsidepc.org), if you would like to attend.
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
A brief congregational meeting will take place immediately after worship Sunday, April 10, for the purpose of dissolving the vacant Associate Pastor position. The position can be re-established easily whenever we choose to add staff; this vote will save the church money by our not having to pay into the pension fund for a vacant job.
ST. JOSEPH'S HAITIAN DANCE BENEFIT, APRIL 18
The Resurrection Dance Theater of St. Joseph's Home for Boys will perform a selection of traditional Haitian dances in the Cannon Chapel of the Candler School of Theology on the Emory campus on Monday, April 18 at 7 p.m. St. Joseph's, dedicated to bringing boys from the streets of Port au Prince and providing them with a Christian home and family, lost two of its three buildings during the 2010 earthquake. Donations from the event benefit the continuing rebuilding of St. Joseph's.
