FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT

Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty firmament!
People: Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his
surpassing greatness!
Leader: Praise him with trumpet sound, praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with
tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe!
People: Praise him with clanging cymbals, with loud clashing cymbals! Let
everything that breathes praise the Lord!
All: Praise the Lord! - Psalm 150

THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
O Lord, you know us so very well. We believe that we can hide things from
your sight. We are wrong. We believe that we should hide our misdeeds. We are
wrong. You know us so very well and you love us. We needn’t hide at all. Why do
we hide, O Lord? We hide because we are afraid. We are afraid that you will
judge us. We forget that in Jesus, you, the judge, stood in our place. You know us
so well, O God, because you chose to be with us. Forgive our fear, and turn our
hearts back to you. We pray it in the name of the one who stood in our place, Jesus
Christ, Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners, Christ died for us.
People: For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through
the death of his son, much more surely, having been reconciled,
will we be saved by his life.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Romans 5:8,10

Jesus, in Thy dying woes, even while Thy lifeblood flows, craving pardon for Thy foes. May our
hearts to Thee incline, looking from our cross to Thine: cheer our souls with hope divine. When we
seem in vain to pray, and our hope seems far away, in the darkness be our stay. May we thirst Thy
love to know; lead us in our sin and woe where the healing waters flow. Brighten all our heavenward
way with an ever holier ray till we pass to perfect day. May Thy life and death supply grace to
live and grace to die, grace to reach our home on high. Hear us, Holy Jesus.
