cringe before you.

your name.”

and sustains us. - Psalm 66:1-4
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 457 I Greet Thee, Who My Sure Redeemer Art

THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned. Where you have created us for
genuine community, we have huddled with those of like mind. Where you have
created us to rest in your constant care, we have failed to trust. Where you have
created us to give of ourselves with generosity of spirit to all we meet, we have
held back from doing what we can. We have not sought to be bad people, we simply
haven’t lived as you created us to live. We stand in need of forgiveness. How
grateful we are that you stand more ready to forgive than we are to ask. So, forgiving
us, call us once more to trusting discipleship. We pray it in the name of Jesus
and for his sake, Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: When the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under
the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive
adoption as children.
People: And because you are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son unto
our hearts, crying. “Abba, Father!”
Leader: So you are no longer a slave, but a child, and if a child, then also an heir, through God.
Believe the Promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Galatians 4:4-7
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (KYRIE) (Hymn 572)
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.
* THE PEACE OF CHRIST

THE CHORAL RESPONSE Baptized in Water Gaelic melody
THE FIRST LESSON John 11:1-7; 17-27 (page 98 in the pew Bible, NT)
THE ANTHEM Out of the Deep from Requiem John Rutter
Charae Krueger, cello
Gene Martin, conductor
Out of the deep have I called unto thee, O Lord: Lord, hear my voice. O let thine ears consider
well: the voice of my complaint. If thou, Lord, wilt be extreme to mark what is done amiss: O
Lord, who may abide it? For there is mercy with thee: therefore shalt thou be feared. I look for the
Lord; my soul doth wait for him: in his word is my trust. My soul fleeth unto the Lord; before the
morning watch, I say, before the morning watch. O Israel, trust in the Lord, for with the Lord there
is mercy and with him is plenteous redemption. And he shall redeem Israel from all his sins.
- Psalm 130
THE SECOND LESSON John 11:28-45 (page 99 in the pew Bible, NT)
THE SERMON “If You Had Been Here...” Baron Mullis
* THE HYMN 293 This is My Father’s World
* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver
us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
