FLOWERS THIS SUNDAY

The flowers in the sanctuary are given by Daniel Easton to the glory of God and in loving memory of his grandmother, Frieda Potter. Frieda who died in December would have celebrated her 96th birthday on May 1.

WELCOME BACK/CHOIR THANKS

We welcome back our organist/choirmaster Walter Huff, after a 7-week engagement as chorus master with the San Diego Opera. During his absence, the Chancel Choir has offered beautiful and inspiring music during Lent and Easter Sunday. Today they are enjoying a well-deserved morning off.

REMEMBERING MOTHERS

At Morningside, flowers placed in the Sanctuary on Mother's Day allow us the opportunity to remember and pay tribute to the significant women who have impacted our lives. A listing of tributes made by Wednesday, May 4 will be available on Mother's Day and a $10 per name donation is requested. A sign-up sheet is included in this bulletin, or you may advise the church office (office@morningsidepc.org).

THEOLOGY ON TAP

Men of Morningside, mark your calendars for Theology on Tap this Tuesday, May 3 at 7 p.m. We will gather at the home of Bryan Davis (2007 Tuxedo Ave., 30307) for our last official gathering of the season for dinner and conversation...and maybe a little friendly poker, so bring your cards, poker chips and a sense of humor! Baron got some feedback indicating people would like to have one social gathering a year, so ask and you shall receive. RSVP to the church office today, and stay tuned for information regarding our annual men's retreat planned for mid-summer.

SERVING DINNER AT DRUID HILLS NIGHT SHELTER

Sign up today on the mission bulletin board next to the Narthex to provide a dish to serve 30 men at the night shelter next Sunday evening, May 8. Contact shepherd Curt Barrett (emailcurt@mindspring.com) with questions.

VENTURE CREW FOOD DRIVE

Venturers are participating in the Boy Scouts of America Spring Food Drive which continues through May 8. The food collected will go to the Druid Hills UMC food pantry. We will have collection bags available for your non-perishable food items that should be left in the Welcome Center baskets. For more information, contact David Cox at DlctchC@netscape.net.

MOTHER'S DAY OFFERING

This Mother’s Day you can make a difference in the lives of many senior adults living at Presbyterian Homes of Georgia. The Caring Hands Fund benefits the most vulnerable residents. Monies are used to bridge the gap between Medicare and the actual cost of the high quality of care that Presbyterian Homes provide. Caring Hands donations also allow in-home services to help residents in independent apartment homes maintain their independence.  Consider a special offering marked "Mother's Day Offering" on May 8.

ATTEND THEATER TO SUPPORT WOMEN'S SHELTER

Purchase a ticket to see Anton Chekov’s ‘The Seagull’ on Saturday, May 14 at 8 p.m. or Sunday, May 15 at 3 p.m. at Fabrefaction Theater (999 Brady Ave. Midtown West). Tickets are $20. Saturday night, you can choose to include dinner at 6:30 p.m. for a total of $40. Sunday, there is a tea reception at 2 p.m. for $25. All proceeds will go to the Shearith Israel Women’s Shelter. See details on the Mission bulletin board or on MPC’s website. Contact Melinda Sandkam at msandkam@ morningsidepc.org with questions or if you would like to go with a group from MPC.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE

Adult Sunday School Classes—Did I hear that right?

What makes a good sermon? A great sermon? What makes a good preacher? A great preacher? We all know good preaching when we hear it, but what makes it good?  Lead by our own Baron Mullis, for the five Sundays in May, the Adult Bible Study Class will look at the form a sermon might take and what its function might be by looking at and listening to examples by five luminary 20th Century preachers. The Bible Class meets each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201 and all are welcome.

Children’s Classes

This Sunday preschool children will learn about Jesus’ ascension in the story Good-bye for Now. The elementary classes will begin a set of lessons taken from Paul’s letters. In Romans 8:38-39 Paul explains that nothing can separate us from God’s love. Double Digits will be in worship.
