TORNADO RESPONSE
As needs are being assessed throughout the tornado ravaged southeast, MPC is researching details for a trip in next few weeks or months to help with recovery. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is already at work and you can give specifically to tornado relief at www.pcusa.org. PDA is known for their long-term planning in recovery efforts as evidenced by on-going work for New Orleans, Haiti, Nashville and most recently Japan. In response to the current disaster that has affected so many people throughout the Southeast, MPC has chosen to send $500 to PDA from contingency funds for mission. Additionally, MPC is going to be a donation site for the next three Wednesdays, 11:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. for much needed items for those whose lives were devastated by the tornados. Check out the grassroots organization ‘Toomers for Tuscaloosa’ which is bringing rivals Alabama and Auburn together. MPC member Heather Regnault will be spearheading this effort which will not only collect donations of most critically needed items, but will also need volunteers to take two hour shifts on a Wednesday to receive them, drivers of vans or SUVs to move them to distribution center in Peachtree City and much more. Sign up today in the narthex or contact Heather hpregnault @yahoo.com to let her know how you can do hands-on work for tornado victims.
