THE GATHERING Melinda Sandkam
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
THE PRELUDE Walter Huff, organist
* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.
People: Sing to the Lord, all the earth; tell of his salvation from day to day.
Leader: Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples.
People: For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised.
Leader: Let us worship the Lord our God. - Psalm 96:1-4
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 474 O Splendor of God’s Glory Bright
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
O Holy God, we have sought in knowing you to contain you. We have thought we
could prevent your Spirit from blowing where it will. We have looked upon your
greatness and your closeness with narrow minds. We have thought that we can understand
the scope of your greatness and the closeness of your love. We now acknowledge
that we cannot. Only as you reveal yourself to us may we know you. And
so we now ask that you would forgive our overreaching sin, and remind us of your
uncontainable nature and your reassuring presence. It is in the name of Christ we
pray, with the assurance of the Holy Spirit’s comfort. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: We know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will
bring us with you into his presence.
People: Yes, everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and
more people may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - 2 Corinthians 4:14-15
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 126)
Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove, with all Thy quickening powers; come, shed
abroad a Savior’s love, and that shall kindle ours.

THE SECOND LESSON Acts 2:1-21 (page 111 in the pew Bible, NT)
THE SERMON “Ecclesiology of the Living God” Baron Mullis
* THE HYMN 400 When We Are Living
* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
THE OFFERTORY The Holy Spirit Filled the Place Johann Stobäus
The Holy Spirit filled the place, they spoke in tongues of every race, and there received God’s
favor, who lives with us forever. They all were touched with holy fire, to spread the Word was
their desire; the gifts that each received there, their hearts with joy believed there. O what a joyful
day! Day of all the days the best. God sends to every soul the gift that makes us whole: the Holy
Ghost. Shout Amen and sing we Alleluia!
* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)
* THE HYMN 313 Come Down, O Love Divine
* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
* THE CHORAL RESPONSE O Radiant Light, O Sun Divine Sarum plainsong
O radiant Light, O sun divine, of God the Father's deathless face, O image of the Light sublime, that fills
the heavenly dwelling place. O Son of God, the source of life, praise is Your due by night and day. Our
happy lips must raise the strain of Your esteemed and splendid name. Lord Jesus Christ, as daylight fades,
as shine the lights of eventide, we praise the Father with the Son, the Spirit blest and with them one. Amen.
