CHANCEL CHOIR/GUEST SOLOIST
We offer our thanks to Morningside’s chancel choir for their musical offerings this summer. Today they are enjoying a well-deserved day of rest. We welcome Marcus Hill, baritone, as our guest soloist today. Marcus is a senior at Morehouse College and has sung with the Atlanta Opera Chorus in numerous productions, including this year’s Porgy and Bess and the 2008 Porgy European tour.
CHURCH OFFICE CLOSED MONDAY
The church offices will be closed Monday, July 4 in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.
STAGE/CLOSETS WORKDAY
Join us for any amount of time 9am-5pm on Tuesday, July 12 to help sort, straighten and inventory items on stage and in Sunday school room closets. Even an hour of your time is valuable in this mid-year workday. Sign up on bulletin board outside Session Room 103 or contact Melinda Sandkam with questions.
SAVE THE DATE FOR MONTREAT
Save the dates October 14-16! Our church retreat has moved to a prime fall foliage date. Mark your calendars now and plan to join us for this year’s church retreat in the North Carolina mountains. Registration forms are available at the church and online. Reserve your spot now! The retreat is a wonderful place to get to know others in our growing community.
COUPLES GROUP
Julie Green and Mardee Rightmyer will host the next get-together of the Couples Group on Friday, July 8 at 7 p.m. at their home (2707 Pharr Rd., NE 30317). The plan is to grill shish-ka-bobs (chicken and beef) with onions and peppers. Plan to bring an appetizer, side or dessert and favorite beverage. Let us know if you're able to join the fun. As always, all couples -- members and visitors -- are invited and most welcome! RSVP to Kathy and Alan Bremer at 404.872.3001, kdbremer@bellsouth.net.
VOLUNTEER AT FOOD PANTRY
Sign up today to sort food at the Intown Collaborative Ministries food pantry next Saturday, July 9. Contact Nancy Collins with any questions ncollins0209@ gmail.com.
BACK-2-SCHOOL
Help more than 200 local school kids by helping out at the Back-2-School backpack-filling party, hosted by the Georgia Justice Project for the children of its clients. MPC will send five volunteers to help set up and work the event 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16 near Turner Field. This is a great way to help at-risk youth get a good start for the new school year. To sign up, contact Bill Means, billmeans@bellsouth.net, 404.234.9718.
WELCOME HOME BASKETS
We are once again collecting items to create Welcome Home baskets for the men moving on from Clifton Sanctuary Ministries. See the display in the Welcome Center for request items and bring them in by July 17. Contact Shepherd Tony Fishpaw 404.597.5485 tonyfishpaw@ me.com.
THEATER OUTING
Contact Melinda Sandkam to reserve your group ticket to see ‘The Tempest’ at Georgia Shakespeare on Sunday, July 17 at 7 p.m.
MISSION CAMP NEEDS YOU
We have 21 kids registered for our third Mission Camp July 25-29. Now, we need to secure enough chaperones/drivers. This is a very important aspect of Mission Camp, as most of our week is spent visiting outreach programs. Contact Melinda Sandkam today to sign up for a morning, afternoon or whole day, or see needs on the bulletin board outside of Session Room 103.
WELCOME BABY BERTRAND
Julian Aaron Bertrand was born June 25 in Italy. He is the grandson of JoAnn and Aaron Bertrand. Mother, Dad and Julian are doing well; grandparents too!
