Texts: Hebrews 13:15-16; 1 John 1:1-3

GUEST PREACHER
This Sunday morning we welcome The Rev. Dr. Thomas Evans to our pulpit. Tom came to Atlanta in February of 2010 to serve as the Executive Presbyter of Greater Atlanta. He previously served as Executive Presbyter of the Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, which includes central Alabama Presbyterian churches. In this position, he was co-founder of the Alabama Faith Council working with churches of 25 traditions, as well as fostering collaborative work between the two other presbyteries in Alabama.
PASTOR ON CALL
During Baron's study leave and vacation, Glenn Small is serving as pastor on call. Glenn is an ordained Presbyterian minister and a Licensed Professional Counselor in private practice. He can be reached at 770.414.5957 or 404.862.7340. During office hours, you may also contact the church office at 404.876.7396.
MISSION CAMP STARTS TOMORROW
We currently have 40+ adults lined up to help make Mission Camp come to life for 24 kids this week. We have a few more small needs throughout the week – Wednesday afternoon, Friday morning. See Program Director Melinda Sandkam to help out. Also, don’t miss the opportunity to have your car washed Thursday morning, July 28. From 9:15 to 10 a.m. the kids will accept donations to wash your car, with proceeds going towards the Atlanta Humane Society. These donations will then be delivered by the kids when they tour the facility later that morning.
SANCTUARY FLOWERS
A flower calendar is posted on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Session Room, and if you wish to give flowers in honor or in memory of a loved one, we invite you to write your name and phone number next to the desired date. It is possible to share a date with other members if you want to give one arrangement or you may sign up alone to give both arrangements. Contact Georgia Marshall, Head of Flower Guild, for more details (gkmarshall@gmail.com or 404.909.3477-cell). Contact Anna Best in the office by Tuesday of that week for bulletin recognition.
NEXT THEATER OUTING
A group from Morningside will attend Georgia Shakespeare’s production of “Noises Off” on Sunday, August 7 at 7 p.m. Michael Frayn's hilarious farce takes you behind the curtain with a mediocre touring company trying to put on a terrible play and making a delightfully entertaining mess of it. Contact Melinda at msandkam@ morningsidepc.org by July 31 for a group ticket ($26.75) to enjoy an evening of hilarity. Picnic tables will be available before the show for dining together.
GOT GAME?
“Ping Pong, Pop Tarts, and Prayer” continues through the summer for completed third through seventh graders at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays in Rooms 003 and 005. The Double Digits and Youth of MPC are invited to meet Ms. Meredith on Sunday mornings to enjoy a cookies ‘n cream or frosted blueberry Pop Tart between games of ping pong, foosball and air hockey. This fun time of fellowship is wrapped up with prayer before the worship hour.
“THIS I BELIEVE…”
These words prompt various responses from all of us. Some think of Starbucks cups, others of Edward R. Murrow, and many of us remember a service at MPC where our fellow congregants told us what they held as core values. We will repeat This I Believe as our 11 a.m. worship on Sunday, August 7. This year’s homilies will be delivered by Jennye Guy, Bill Means and Ruthlyn Newell. Don’t miss this chance to hear what Jennye, Bill and Ruthlyn believe!
SAVE THE DATE FOR MONTREAT
Save the dates October 14-16! Our church retreat has moved to a prime fall foliage date. Mark your calendars now and plan to join us for this year’s retreat in the mountains. Registration forms are available at the church and online.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE
Adult Sunday School Classes
Each Sunday through September 4th, the class will be studying select chapters from Dr. Peter Gomes book, The Good Book; Reading the Bible with Mind and Heart. For July, the remaining topic is The Bible & Anti-Semitism (7/31). Dr. Gomes’ book takes a look at how we should read scripture and what scripture actually says on a variety of continually controversial subjects. Join in and see why some call this book “the best contemporary book on the Bible for thoughtful people.” This class meets at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201.
Children’s Classes
The Preschool Class will hear the story A Little Jar of Oil, The Story of Elisha and the Widow to learn how Elisha helped a poor widow use one small jar of oil to feed her sons. K-2 children will adventure with God’s people at the Jordan River when Jesus was baptized. 3rd-7th graders will explore different aspects of “Music” with the Worship for Life curriculum.
