* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 487 When Morning Gilds the Skies
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of Majesty, you have drawn near to us, but we have turned away from
your light. You have chosen us to be your people, but we confess that we have
lived as though we belonged to ourselves. Forgive us for going the way of the
world, doing the works of darkness, and forgetting your law of love toward God
and neighbor. Empower us by your Spirit to be faithful followers of Jesus, who
taught us by word and example how to live as your children, to your honor and
glory. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ
is, seated at the right hand of God.
People: Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on
earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Leader: When Christ, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him
in glory. Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 280)
The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.
* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children ages 3-11 are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ for special classes. Three through five-yearolds in Room 011; K - 2nd grade in Room 001; 3rd-7th grade are in Room 005.)
THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH
(Visitors and members are invited to sign the blue friendship register pad and pass it down the pew.)
THE FIRST LESSON Hebrews 13:15-16 (page 214 in the pew Bible, NT)
THE ANTHEM Rejoice in the Lord Alway Henry Purcell
Trio - Tami Giusto, Chris Boggs, Chris Hawkins
Rejoice in the Lord alway, and again I say, rejoice! Be careful for nothing, but in everything by
prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God; and the
peace of God which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Jesus
Christ our Lord.
THE SECOND LESSON 1 John 1:1-3 (page 224 in the pew Bible, NT)
THE SERMON “Koinonia: The Ambrosia of the Church” Tom Evans
* THE HYMN 426 Lord, Speak to Me, That I May Speak (verses 1 through 4)
* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
THE OFFERTORY Toccata in F Major Buxtehude
* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)
* THE HYMN 389 O Jesus, I Have Promised
* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
* THE CHORAL RESPONSE How Can I Keep From Singing? Lowry, arr. Ellingboe
Quartet - Tami Giusto, Linda Rozakis, Gabe Couret, Rob Cromwell
What though the tempest around me roar, I hear the truth. It liveth. What though the darkness
around me close, songs in the night it giveth. No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that
rock I’m clinging. Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing?
