THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
Religion is more like response to a friend than it is like obedience to an expert. -Austin Farrer

COUPLES GROUP
All MPC couples will be welcomed by host couple Carol and Bill Southwood for a fun evening at Caramba Restaurant on Decatur St., this Friday, August 12 at 7 p.m.  RSVP to Kathy and Alan Bremer (kdbremer@bellsouth.net or 404.872.3001).

EVERYONE NEEDS SOME ART!
Clifton Sanctuary Ministries is fortunate that Morningside member Doug Self has donated hundreds of pieces of art from his interior design showroom, and they will be available for sale this Saturday, August 13 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Clifton's home (369 Connecticut Avenue, Atlanta, 30307). There are framed prints, as well as canvas-framed art and a wide variety—including prints perfect for a beach house or a formal dining room. Several very large pieces are also included.  Contact Leslie Prince 770.377.0027 with questions.

NEW MEMBER SUNDAY
Are you thinking about joining Morningside Church? This Sunday, August 14 is a great time to do it. Plan to attend the Inquirers’ Class this Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in the Session Room. Please be in touch with Baron Mullis (404.876.7396, x11 or baron.mullis@morningsidepc.org) to let him know of your interest.

SUNDAY SCHOOL KICK OFF
Many of our MPC children have started back to school!  Here at Morningside, we begin our Sunday school year this Sunday, August 14 at 9:45 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to this hour of fun with light breakfast items. Jonah’s Whale will headline the game corner! Crafts and dress-up areas will take you back to our VBS days and then let you look ahead to our Big Fun days. Our Bread for the Journey outreach will be available to showcase how MPC children participate in mission. The kids will also get a chance to try their hand at playing the chimes. Once we dedicate the new school year, our children are then invited to start the school year in their “new” age groups.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
The Session has called a congregational meeting following worship this Sunday, August 14. The purpose of this meeting is to allow Morningside to vote on extending the honor of "Pastor Emerita" to the Rev. Joanna Adams for her service to Morningside.  Following the affirmative vote, we will celebrate this milestone with Joanna and Al on September 18th following worship.

THORNWELL HOME OFFERING
As part of our August 14 Sunday School Kickoff, MPC will again collect a special offering for Thornwell Home for Children. Founded as a Presbyterian ministry in 1875, Thornwell is a joyful Christian community, offering hope and wholeness to children and families. Its goals are to provide loving homes for abused, abandoned and neglected children, to offer an opportunity for healing by providing proper healthcare and mental health counseling for every Thornwell child, and to offer the children hope for a successful future by providing educational support and teaching self-advocacy. The offering envelopes for Thornwell were made by MPC children at July's Mission Camp.
