THE GATHERING James Klotz
Leader: The Lord be with you.

THE PRELUDE Walter Huff, organist

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness,
come into his presence with singing.
People: Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his, we are
his people and the sheep of his pasture.
Leader: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to
him, bless his name.
People: For the Lord is good, his steadfast love endures for ever, and his
faithfulness to all generations.
Leader: Let us worship God who creates us, redeems us and sustains us. - Psalm 100

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 376 Love Divine, All Loves Excelling

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, in every age you have raised up men and women to live and die in
faith. We confess that we are indifferent to your will. You call us to proclaim
your name, but we are silent. You call us to do what is just, but we remain idle.
You call us to live faithfully, but we are afraid. In your mercy, forgive us. Give us
the courage to follow in your way, that joined with those from ages past, who
have served you with faith, hope and love, we may inherit the kingdom you
promised in Jesus Christ. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord;
People: “I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds,”
Leader: He also adds,
People: “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”
Leader: Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, our sins are forgiven! - Hebrews 10:16-18

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 280)
The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.

THE MINUTE MESSAGE Sarah Chatel

THE FIRST LESSON Matthew 16:21-28 (page 17 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE ANTHEM Let All the World Robert Baker
Let all the world in every corner sing - my God and King! The heavens are not too high, His praise
may thither fly! The earth is not too low, His praises there may grow. The church with psalms must
shout; no door can keep them out! But above all, the heart must bear the longest part.
text-George Herbert

THE SECOND LESSON Exodus 3:1-15 (page 48 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE SERMONBeware the Burning Bush!” Baron Mullis

* THE HYMN 522 Lord, When I Came Into This Life

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.

THE OFFERTORY A Hymn of Glory Let Us Sing Paul Manz

* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)

* THE HYMN 393 Take Up Your Cross, the Savior Said

* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION

* THE CHORAL RESPONSE God Is Love, His Mercy Brightens Psalmodia Sacra (1715)
God is love; his mercy brightens all the path in which we rove; bliss he wakes and woe he lightens: God
is wisdom, God is love. E’en the hour that darkest seemeth will his changeless goodness prove; through
the gloom his brightness streameth: God is wisdom, God is love.
