CHANCEL CHOIR/GUEST SOLOIST
We offer our thanks to Morningside’s chancel choir for their musical offerings this summer. Today they are enjoying a well-deserved day of rest. We welcome Maria Clark as our guest soloist today. Maria is a graduate of Manhattan School of Music and Georgia State University. A winner of numerous vocal competitions, she has performed at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and also in productions with the Atlanta Opera-including the 2008 European tour of Porgy and Bess.
FOOD COLLECTION
MPC is collecting easy-to-go non-perishable food items to help fill Intown Collaborative Ministries food pantry (providing for those in 30306/30307 zip codes) through today. Donated items can be placed in the Welcome Center baskets.
NEW YOUTH DIRECTOR
Morningside has a new youth director for our new youth group! Chris Peters has joined our staff as Youth Director at Morningside beginning September 11. He will work alongside our youth advisors and youth committee to build a program that will walk alongside our children as they grow through adolescence. This evening the youth will enjoy fireworks at Druid Hills Country Club, and next Sunday, September 11, they will prepare and serve dinner at Druid Hills Night Shelter. 10th ANNIVERSARY OF SEPTEMBER 11
As our nation approaches the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001, Walter Huff and the Chancel Choir are preparing special musical selections to be presented in worship on Sunday, September 11, 2011. Mark your calendars to be with us.
LYDIA CIRCLE
After taking a summer reprieve, Lydia Circle will start up again this Thursday, September 8. Lydia Circle is a group of young female professionals and moms that welcomes members and visitors of MPC to join them on September 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the home of Carrie Branon (786 San Antonio Dr., NE 30306). This Saturday, September 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., MPC will participate in Home Owner Maintenance and Enhancement for Seniors, a program of Senior Citizens Services of Metro Atlanta serving seniors since 1965. Volunteers are needed. Look for the signup sheet on the mission bulletin board and join other MPC members working on this worthwhile ministry or contact Jack Klotz (jacksklotz@gmail.com).

TRAINING FOR ALL PRE-K VOLUNTEERS
Please join Sue Ballay next Sunday morning at 10 a.m. for a brief training update in the classroom where you volunteer. We will review health and safety policies, take a look at changes in the lesson format, and share “tricks of the trade” for having fun with three and four year olds.
DOUBLE DIGITS IN ACTION
The 4th & 5th graders of MPC thank the congregation for the support of their bake sale last week. They raised $353.21 for the victims of famine in Somalia. Their next outreach will be next Sunday, September 11 at 10:15 a.m. when they will prepare the dessert for the men at Druid Hills Night Shelter. Double Digits should RSVP to Rachel Spears rachelespears @yahoo.com if they will be able to join in this effort. On Sunday, October 2, the DD will head to Calvin Center for horseback riding after church. RSVP today to Lisa Jern lisa.jern@sutherland.com so that we can reserve enough horses.

On Sunday, September 18, Rev. Joanna Adams will be recognized as Pastor Emerita, a position of honor, appreciation and distinction for her sustaining leadership at Morningside. Please join us in Fellowship Hall after worship for a reception which will be held in her honor.
HAITI SECOND SUITCASE
MPC members will travel to Haiti October 1-7. Please join them in spirit and donate items the group can give to the people of Haiti. Items will be collected September 11-25, and donations can be placed in the Welcome Center. Requested items are: toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo, lotion, children's cough/cold syrup (all previous items should be packed in ziplock bags); pain relievers (children and adult); baby powder; new/gently-used clothes (child’s sm/med/lg and adult sm/med); new/gently-used tennis shoes/Croc-like sandals (youth 1 to men's 10); silverware; children games; white dustless chalk; blue ballpoint pens; pencils; gum erasers; notebook paper; watercolor paints and paper; acrylic paints; artist brushes; sketch books and drawing pencils. Next Sunday, September 11, Baron Mullis will begin a series titled Things You Never Knew You Wanted to Know. Such topics to be considered are: “What is sin?” “What is atonement and why does it matter?” and “Why does the church keep talking about that Trinity?” Please plan to participate in adult education as we consider what faith teaches about a variety of topics! The series will continue through October 9 at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday in Room 201.
Children’s Classes
Today the Preschool Class will respond to the story It’s a Noisy Place! with animal activities that include making some noise. Elementary Classes “go green” as they learn how God made Adam and Eve caretakers for all Creation. Double Digits will attend worship.
