FLOWERS THIS SUNDAY

The flowers in the sanctuary are given by the Morningside Chancel Choir in memory of the nearly 3,000 victims of the attacks on September 11, 2001.

A WORD FROM WALTER HUFF

Nearly 10 years ago, on September 16 of 2001, this sanctuary was filled to capacity with MPC members and visitors seeking comfort and a place for prayer, after having witnessed a shocking event for our nation. The hymns we sing today were those used at that service. The opening chant of the men's ensemble (Psalm 31) and a selection from Fauré's Requiem were also offered by the choir, having rallied on September 12 to prepare appropriate music for the service. As we sing and hear this music today, we remember our shock and sadness then, and we rely on our present prayers for peace.

GUEST MUSICIANS

We welcome Eric Sturniolo (soloist with the Georgia Boy Choir) and cellist Charae Krueger as our guest musicians today.

YOUTH GROUP

This evening the youth will welcome their new youth director Chris Peters, and they will prepare and serve dinner at Druid Hills Night Shelter. Next Sunday, September 18 they will get to “Ask the Pastor” from 5-7 p.m. here at Morningside.

THEOLOGY ON TAP

This fall our social and discussion group for men only, Theology on Tap, will seek to learn more about the practices that make up a faithful life. Discussion this Tuesday, September 13, will center on the practice of keeping our word. Baron will lead the meetings, and each month we will talk about a practice that gives tangible expression to our faith. This month’s gathering is hosted by Shawn Holaway (1101 Juniper St. NE, #1013, 30309). RSVP to Anna Best at office @morningsidepc.org.

LGBT GROUP AND FRIENDS

This Saturday, September 17 the LGBT Group and Friends will gather at the home of Peter Dickson and Todd Brawner (425 Kensington Parc Drive, Avondale Estates). The group meets regularly for fun, food, fellowship, and building connections within our faith community. Events are open to everyone. RSVP to Peter Dickson peter.dickson @comcast.net.
