FLOWERS THIS SUNDAY
The flowers in the sanctuary are given today to the glory of God in celebration of the dedication and ministry of Reverend Joanna Moseley Adams, Pastor Emerita of Morningside Presbyterian Church, by Mr. and Mrs. Guerry Leonard Mashburn, on behalf of the entire Morningside Congregation.
ADAMS RECEPTION
Today following worship, we continue the celebration of Joanna Adams as Pastor Emerita with a reception in Fellowship Hall. At 12:30, we will hear a brief word about some of the highlights of Joanna's Morningside ministry and then unveil the portrait of Joanna that was commissioned at the time of her retirement. Please proceed to the fellowship hall to enjoy food and company with Joanna and Al and to enjoy this special celebration."
YOUTH GROUP
This evening, September 18, the youth will get to “Ask the Pastor” from 5-7 p.m. here at Morningside.
NEW PARAMENTS
This morning marks the debut of our new green paraments for the liturgical season of Ordinary Time. They are a joint gift of the LGBT Group and our Worship Team, given in honor of Joanna Adams on her retirement from parish ministry. The inscription panel on the reverse reads: Given to the glory of God and in honor of The Reverend Dr. Joanna M. Adams, Senior Pastor of Morningside Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, on the occasion of her retirement from parish ministry, January 2010. The design and fabric choices were a collaboration of church members and Patrick Boylan of Grace Vestments of New York who crafted the set.
HAITI SECOND SUITCASE
MPC members will soon travel to Haiti. Join them in spirit and donate items in September that they can give to the Haitian people. For a list of requested items contact Bryan Davis bdavis@mindspring.com. Donations can be placed in the Welcome Center.
DOUBLE DIGITS IN ACTION
Next Sunday, September 25, the Double Digits will bake bread at 10:15 a.m. as they look ahead to World Communion. On Sunday, October 2, they will head to Calvin Center for horseback riding after church. RSVP today to Lisa Jern lisa.jern @sutherland.com so that we can reserve enough horses.
RHO READERS
Next Sunday, September 25, members of the RHO Book Group will host Fellowship Hour and offer a sale of used books along with refreshments. Proceeds will benefit the group’s two educational missions: The Global Village School in Decatur for refugee girls and the Fugees Academy in Clarkston for refugee boys. Be sure to stop by!
FORUM ON IMMIGRATION
You are invited to an immigration forum on Thursday, September 22 at 7 p.m. hosted by Trinity Presbyterian (3003 Howell Mill Rd.). The forum will be moderated by GA Representative Elly Dobbs, and there will be a number of important speakers including: Charles Kuck, immigration attorney; Dr. Marie F. Marquardt, Candler School of Theology; Jerry Gonzalez, GA Association of Latino Elected Officials; and Charles Hall, GA Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association.
CLIFTON SANCTUARY MINISTRIES
On Saturday, September 24, MPC will serve dinner for the 30 homeless men at Clifton Sanctuary Ministries beginning at 5:30 p.m. If you would like to help serve or can prepare one of the dinner items, please sign up on the bulletin board located outside the session room. Earth Covenant Ministry presents the 1st annual Harvest Moon Party (ECM Fundraiser with Local Foods, Dinner & Bluegrass). Next Sunday, September 25, Baron Mullis continues the series titled Things You Never Knew You Wanted to Know with “What is sin? Am I a sinner? Really?” Please plan to participate in adult education as we consider what faith teaches about a variety of topics! The class meets 9:45 a.m. each Sunday in Room 201.
Children’s Classes
Today, the story Adam and Eve introduces Preschoolers to what happened when God added humans to Creation. Elementary Classes will learn that it took many years for Esau to forgive his brother Jacob for a mean trick he played when they were young. Double Digits will participate in a lesson on the Call to Worship from the Worship for Life curriculum.
