BAPTISM THIS SUNDAY

Ellis LeMaster O’Brien, son of Eric and Emily O’Brien, will receive the sacrament of baptism this morning.

HAITI SECOND SUITCASE

Six MPC members will leave for Haiti this Saturday, October 1 to once again partner for a week with Hearts with Haiti. We are commissioning Greg Cornwell, Bryan Davis, Tony Fishpaw, Tim Gargis, Shannon Harris and Brad Odom during worship today, and we invite you to keep them in your prayers during their pilgrimage. Following worship today, join us in Fellowship Hall for a packing party as we load up the six extra suitcases that will journey with them to Haiti.

RHO READERS

Today members of the RHO Book Group will host Fellowship Hour and offer a sale of used books along with refreshments. Proceeds will benefit the group’s two educational missions: The Global Village School in Decatur for refugee girls and the Fugees Academy in Clarkston for refugee boys. Be sure to stop by!

YOUTH GROUP

This Sunday it's the MPC Youth Great Virtual Visual Scavenger Hunt in and around the church and surrounding block. All you need to join this team event are sharp eyes! Our Youth Group meets 5-7 p.m.

DOUBLE DIGITS IN ACTION

The 4th and 5th grade Double Digits have been busy baking bread this morning and learning about World Communion. Next Sunday, October 2, they will head to Calvin Center for horseback riding after church, and Sunday, October 9, they will make dessert for the men at Druid Hills Shelter at 10:15 a.m.

LGBT PRIDE IN OCTOBER

Presbyterians will celebrate LGBT Pride this October, so mark your calendars now! Morningside and North Decatur Presbyterian Churches are partnering to lead the following events: On Sunday, October 2 at 4:15 p.m. join Covenant Network’s Tricia Dykers Koening as we discuss where the church is post Amendment A at North Decatur (611 Medlock Rd., Decatur, 30033). On Thursday, October 6 at 7 p.m. here at Morningside you are invited to join in the annual Pride service of worship welcoming Rev. David Lewicki, Co-Pastor of North Decatur, as the guest preacher. On Sunday, October 9, join Presbyterians as we walk in the annual Pride Parade. For more information, contact Trenton Tunnell trentoniii@bellsouth.net and Collier Maxwell colliermaxwell@hotmail.com.

WOMEN’S ROUNDTABLE

Women’s Roundtable resumes with a line-up of dynamic speakers and meaningful programs. The first meeting this fall is tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Lynn Young (277 The Prado, Atlanta 30309). Drinks and a meal will be served. Our speaker will be J. Tom Morgan, former DeKalb County District Attorney and nationally recognized expert on crimes against children.  For more information or to RSVP contact Kim Perez kimkperez@gmail.com.

ONE GRAY HAIR

One Gray Hair will meet this Wednesday, September 28, at noon in Fellowship Hall for our first program of the fall. Catch up with your friends after a long, hot summer! Our program will be presented by Baron Mullis who will share his experiences as he traveled to Oxford, England for the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible and then on to Wales for fun. RSVP to Sarah and Richard Brownlee rsbrownlee1046@att.net.

NEW MEMBER GATHERING

Anyone who has joined the church in the past year is invited to dinner at Leslie and Lloyd Prince’s home (91 Lakeview Drive, Atlanta, 30317) at 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 2. RSVP to leslieprince@comcast.net by Friday, September 30.

LASERSHOW SPECTACULAR!

As summer turns to fall, let's join together in the cooler outdoors for the all-new laser show at Stone Mountain! Saturday, October 1, at 8 p.m., we can carpool from MPC, Melinda’s home in Decatur, or meet on the lawn for fellowship and a magnificent show. Chairs, blankets, and food (no grills or glass) are welcome, and it is free with the $10 vehicle entrance fee. Email Katherine Johnston at kecjohnston@gmail.com with questions.

SORT AT FOOD PANTRY

MPC will provide volunteers to sort and distribute items at Intown Collaborative Ministries’ Food Pantry (located at Druid Hills Methodist, corner of Briarcliff and Ponce) on Saturday, October 8, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sign up today on the mission bulletin board or contact Nancy Collins ncollins0209@gmail.com with questions.

JOIN US AT MONTREAT OCTOBER 14-16

It’s not too late to sign up for the retreat! Spaces are still available, if you can sign up this week. Come join us for fun, fellowship and three sessions with Professor Peter Hobbie on “Growing in Faith”: 1) Knowing who we are: what distinguishes Presbyterians from other Christians 2) Loving our neighbors: understanding how our beliefs differ from those of other major world religions and 3) Keeping the faith: practices that strengthen our faith ... as individuals, as families, as citizens. Forms are available in the Welcome Center and Narthex.
