FLOWERS IN THE SANCTUARY
The flowers in the sanctuary are given to the glory of God by the Morningside LGBT Group.
LGBT PRIDE IN OCTOBER
Presbyterians continue to celebrate LGBT Pride this afternoon as we walk in the annual Pride Parade. If you would like to go as a group, meet Collier Maxwell and Trenton Tunnell along with the marchers in Parade Section H at the Civic Center Marta Station between 12:30 and 1 p.m. For more information, contact Collier 404.229.1024 or Trenton 404.457.1527.
OFFICER NOMINATING COMMITTEE
The Officer Nominating Committee is accepting nominations for Elders and Deacons. As you think about nominations for these leadership roles, keep in mind what the Book of Order states about church leaders, “In addition to possessing the necessary gifts and abilities, natural and acquired, those who undertake particular ministries should be persons of strong faith, dedicated discipleship and love of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord” (G-6.0106a). Officer Nomination Forms are in the church office and are in this week’s bulletin. When nominating, be sure the person is willing to serve a three-year term. For more information, contact an ONC member (Jill Davis, Ellen Brown Landers, Bill Means, Leslie Prince or Doug Self). Forms should be returned to the church office, folded in the offering plate, or placed in the marked boxes in the Welcome Center and Narthex by October 16.
HAITI PILGRIMAGE
Be sure to ask returning travelers about their experiences in Haiti. Greg Cornwell, Bryan Davis, Tony Fishpaw, Tim Gargis, Shannon Harris and Brad Odom visited all three of the Hearts with Haiti programs on their recent trip and have many stories to share.
YOUTH GROUP
This weekend, MPC Middle Schoolers are attending the fall retreat at Calvin Center, so there will not be youth group this evening. Regular Sunday youth group from 5 to 7 p.m. returns October 16 and 23. October 30, there is an afternoon outing to a corn maze.
PROVIDE A MEAL FOR YOUTH GROUP
Contact Tish Woolley (woolleyt@gmail.com) if you can provide dinner for youth group on a Sunday evening.
NEW MEMBER SUNDAY
Are you thinking about joining Morningside Church? Sunday, October 23 is a great time to do it. Plan to attend the Inquirers’ Class that Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in the Session Room. Please be in touch with Baron Mullis (404.876.7396, x11 or baron.mullis@morningsidepc.org) to let him know of your interest.
LYDIA CIRCLE
The next Lydia Circle meeting will be this Thursday, October 13. Lydia Circle, a group of young female professionals and moms, welcomes members and visitors of MPC to join them from 7-9 p.m. at the home of Dawn Bell (901 Virginia Ave. NE, 30306). Please email Tara Parrish to RSVP and for any other details (taraparrish@bellsouth.net).
COUPLES GROUP
All couples are invited to the next Couples get-together on Friday, October 21 at 7 p.m. at the home of Sanda and Bill Means (1071 McLynn Ave., 30306). To RSVP or for more information about the group, please contact Kathy and Alan Bremer kdbremer @bellsouth.net.
OUR HOUSE OUR DREAMS
Don’t miss all the fun at the Our House fundraiser on Saturday, October 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Miller Ward Alumni House on Emory Campus. This is an important fundraiser for Our House preschool that serves children facing homelessness and is once again led by a number of Morningside members. The Young Adults are providing support as volunteers for a half shift before enjoying the rest of the evening at the event. Contact Anne Barnette sawyerbarnette@earthlink.net if you can help out starting at 5:30 p.m. For tickets go to www.ourhousega.org.
WOMENS ROUNDTABLE
In October, Women’s Roundtable will provide an opportunity for female members and their guests to focus on fellowship and one another—getting to know each other in fun, new and exciting ways. This has been a favorite in years past. On October 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Lynn Young (277 The Prado NE, 30309), we will start with beverages and informal conversation, then proceed with a wonderful, home-cooked dinner. If you would like to come, contact Kim Perez kimkperez@yahoo.com.
MITTEN TREE
The annual collection of new mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves for the children (infant-5 years old) at Our House will run through Friday, October 28. Our House is a childcare and support center located in Decatur that serves children and families facing homelessness. Help us provide warm items for the children before the first frost. You may place items on the mitten tree at the preschool end of building outside Room 107. Contact Dawn Bell dm_bell@yahoo.com with any questions.
