* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness,
come into his presence with singing.
People: Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his,
we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.
Leader: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks
to him, bless his name.
People: For the Lord is good, his steadfast love endures forever, and his
faithfulness to all generations.
Leader: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer. - Psalm 100

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 459 Father, We Praise Thee

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of love, we confess that we have not loved as we have been loved. We have
allowed the world’s way of loving to shape our actions and our thoughts rather than
your holy way of loving. We have loved selfishly, grasping; seeking for ourselves.
You have loved selflessly, giving and living for others. You have shown us what is
good. We have not met your expectations. So teach us again, we pray, how to be
your people. Remind us of the ties of love that bind us together, so that we may be
truly your followers. In the name of Jesus we pray, and for his sake. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: By grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing: it is the
gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one might boast.
People: For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared before hand to be our way of life.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - Ephesians 2:8-10

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 341)
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long;

THE MINUTE MESSAGE Brad Odom

THE FIRST LESSON Deuteronomy 6:1-9 (page 157 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE ANTHEM Forever I Praise Thee Johann Freydt
Forever I praise Thee for what Thou hast done. I will praise Thee, and will glorify Thy name, for it is
blessed to offer praises to God.
(This anthem by Prussian composer Freydt was written for the Moravian Church in 1778. Moravians coming to
America over 200 years ago brought hand-copied manuscripts by European composers of the period.)

THE SECOND LESSON Matthew 22:34-46 (page 24 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE SERMONThe Impossible Commandment” Baron Mullis

* THE HYMN 366 Jesus, Thy Boundless Love to Me

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended
into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and
forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory,
forever. Amen.

THE OFFERTORY Capriccio Tarquinio Merula
