LAY LITURGIST
In keeping with the Presbyterian tenet of the priesthood of all believers, MPC maintains a Lay Liturgy Team. Today’s lay leader is Amy DeBaets.
ADVENT BANNERS
Advent means a coming or arrival. The Advent banners that will beautify our sanctuary during this season of waiting represent the coming of the promises of God through Christ Jesus. The title of the banners is “Heart Root Promises of God; Hope, Peace, Joy, Love.” Using purple batiks, the living, powerful energy of the Holy Spirit represents the promises brought forth through Christ into the world. Colors of green, blue, pink and gold batiks represent the power and ever continuing evolution of these promises.
AN ADVENT DISCIPLINE OPPORTUNITY
An Advent Meditation booklet, The Lord is Near, taken from the works of renowned spiritual writer, Henri Nouwen, is available in the Narthex and Welcome Center. Pick-up your copy and take a couple of quiet moments each day during Advent, starting Sunday, November 27 through Christmas Day, for reflection, contemplation, prayer and escape from the bustle of the holidays.
JOANNA ADAMS RETURNS TO MORNINGSIDE'S PULPIT
We are delighted that our Pastor Emerita, Rev. Joanna Adams, will grace our pulpit on December 4. We are indeed honored and privileged to have Joanna back among us. Please plan to be in worship on this special day!
THEOLOGY ON TAP
Theology on Tap’s next gathering will be hosted by Lloyd Prince (91 Lakeview Drive NE, Atlanta 30317) on Tuesday, December 6 at 7 p.m. The night’s program, led by Baron Mullis, will be “How do you know what to do when you don’t know what to do?” This month we’ll tackle the faith practice of discernment at TOT. RSVP to the church office at office@morningsidepc.org.
SPECIAL MUSIC SUNDAY - DECEMBER 11
On Sunday, December 11, the Chancel Choir will present Antonio Vivaldi's "Gloria," serving as the main portion of the 11 a.m. worship. Soloists will include Megan Mashburn and Tami Giusto, sopranos and Kate Murray, mezzo-soprano. Vivaldi (1678-1741) is known as a master of the Italian Baroque style, his most famous composition being the series of violin concertos entitled "The Four Seasons." The "Gloria" is one of the most beloved choral masterpieces, and serves as a fitting seasonal offering when performed by choruses all over the world. Invite a friend and be blessed by this special service.
DAILY DEVOTIONALS
Copies of the daily devotional Our Daily Bread are available on tables in the narthex and welcome center. You may pick one up as you leave the sanctuary this morning. Daily devotions are a wonderful way to start your day as we prepare to celebrate His birth.
FREE HOLIDAY BABYSITTING
On Monday, December 5, we will offer a gift to the community of three hours of free babysitting from 5 to 8 p.m. for children, three months through fifth grade. We will serve pizza and have planned activities for each age group. You must sign up your child ahead of time, so we can have enough babysitters in place. Contact Jennifer James jennjames@comcast.net by Wednesday, November 30 with the names and ages of your children or to volunteer to help make it all happen.
LYDIA CIRCLE
Lydia Circle, a group of young female professionals and moms, welcomes members and visitors of MPC to join them on Thursday, December 8 from 7-9 p.m. at the home of Tara Parrish (1206 Cumberland Road, 30306). All are welcome to participate in a fun and light-hearted White Elephant gift exchange (under $15). Email Tara Parrish to RSVP and for any other details taraparrish@bellsouth.net.
COUPLES GROUP
December’s gathering of the Couples Group will be at the home of Pat and Jim Antenucci (5420 Trentham Ct., Dunwoody, 30338) on Friday, December 9 at 7 p.m. Please bring a side dish to share.
