People: Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness
endures forever.
Leader: He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;
People: the Lord is gracious and merciful.
Leader: Then let us worship the Lord: Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.
- Psalm 111:1-4
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 292 All Beautiful the March of Days
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, a thousand ages in your sight are like an evening gone. In our finiteness,
we worship you like a temporal being. We think of you as ourselves.
And we seek to fit your holy otherness into a human package. Where you saw fit
to take on humanity to redeem us, we have tried to manage your deity with easy
understanding. Forgive our sinful ways. Open our eyes not to certainty, but to
holy mystery, and stir our faith so that in humility we may seek not to restrain
your holy activity but to follow you as children of light. In the name of Jesus, the
Word made flesh, we pray. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order
that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his
marvelous light.
People: Once we were not a people, but now we are God’s people; once we had
not received mercy, but now we have received mercy.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Amen. - 1 Peter 2: 9-10
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 22)
All creation, join in praising God the Father, Spirit, Son, evermore your voices
raising to the eternal Three in One. Come and worship, come and worship, worship
Christ, the newborn King!

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended
into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver
us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
THE OFFERTORY Carol of the Shepherds Paul Manz
* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)
* THE HYMN 275 God of Our Life
* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
* THE CHORAL RESPONSE Simeon’s Prayer Alex Hegenbart
