WORSHIP JANUARY 15, 2012
2ND SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY
THE GATHERING Chris Peters
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
THE PRELUDE Walter Huff, organist
* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness,
come into his presence with singing.
People: Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his,
we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.
Leader: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him,
bless his name.
People: For the Lord is good, his steadfast love endures for ever, and his
faithfulness to all generations.
Leader: Let us worship God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. - Psalm 100
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 248 You Are Before Me, Lord
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious God, we confess there are times when faith is not easy. There are times
when the claim of the Gospel upon our lives is costly. There are times when we
would turn aside onto an easier path rather than face what your promises would
elicit from us. Forgive us when in our living we fail to do and be what you have
called for from us. Forgive us when we cannot remember that it is you who have
carried us through the years. And in forgiving us, give us encouragement that we
may be strengthened in our faith and live out the calling you have given us. We
pray all these things in Jesus’ name and for his sake. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: This is the message that we heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is
light and in him is no darkness at all.
People: If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in
darkness, we lie and do not do what is true. But if we walk in the light
as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the
blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - 1 John 1:5-7
