Dr. Baron Mullis preaching

"Fish Stories"

Texts: Jonah 3:1-5; Mark 1:14-20

FLOWERS THIS SUNDAY

The flowers in the Sanctuary are given by the Pastor Nominating Committee in honor of Rev. Dr. Baron Mullis on the 1st anniversary of his call to Morningside.

ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

MPC’s Annual Congregational Meeting will be today immediately following worship. Among the business to be discussed is the 2012 budget and the pastor’s terms of call. Child care will continue.

WHAT IS TEN TEN?

Ask any 4th or 5th grader at MPC what’s been happening in Room 005 on Sunday mornings at 10:10 a.m. As our Double Digits join worship regularly now, we have kicked off Ten Ten which starts with fun and ends with a review of what will be taking place in worship. Lessons and outreach projects take place in between! This morning they explored baptism, and in upcoming weeks they will look at music in worship, then run a bake sale to support the Souper Bowl offering on February 5.

CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS

A new class of elders and deacons were ordained and installed last Sunday. Our elders and deacons work hard on our behalf - please remember them in prayer for their ministry. Likewise a debt of gratitude is owed to our deacons and elders who completed their service this year. Thank you for all you do!

LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!

Help shape the future of MPC by completing the CAT Scan (Congregational Assessment Tool) Survey that is now available. This 20-minute survey, available electronically or on paper, will allow you to anonymously provide feedback, insight and perspective on multiple topics effecting MPC. The resulting report, Vital Signs, will guide our congregation as we plan for the next five years. If you have any questions, contact Jill Davis at 404.281.0342; jsamail@yahoo.com. Don't miss this opportunity - now is the time to let your voice be heard!

WOMEN’S ROUNDTABLE

The next meeting of Women's Roundtable promises to be very special! Tomorrow, January 23, Morningside's Pastor Emerita Joanna Adams will join us for breaking bread and a conversation titled, “What I’ve Learned Since You Saw Me Last.”  She will explain to us just what it is she's done in the years since she "retired." You won't want to miss this. We will meet at Lynn Young's home at 277 The Prado at 6:30 p.m. Dinner and drinks will be served. RSVP  to Kim Perez at  kimkperez@gmail.com.

MORNINGSIDE PRESBYTERIAN PRESCHOOL

MPP is now accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school year for currently enrolled families and church members during two weeks of Priority Registration. On Monday, January 30, we begin Open Registration. Applications can be found at: http://www.morningsidepc.org/preschool/index.html. For more information, contact Sarah Tomaka, Director, at mpp@morningsidepc.org.

CLIFTON SANCTUARY MINISTRIES

Next Saturday, January 28, MPC will prepare and serve dinner for the 30 homeless men at Clifton Sanctuary Ministries beginning at 5:30 p.m. If you would like to help serve or can prepare one of the dinner items, please sign up on the bulletin board located outside the Session Room. You may also contact David Johnston at 617.233.2004 or dmjohnst@hotmail.com.

BIG FUN FOR BOTH PARENTS AND KIDS

All elementary-age children are invited to a very special Big Fun on Saturday, February 4, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event, which will go in depth on the sacrament of communion, will include parents too. Childcare for younger siblings will be provided with prior reservation. RSVP today to Program Director Melinda Sandkam. Volunteers are needed for a variety of areas, such as serving and cleaning up from lunch; childcare; working with elementary age kids; and helping with the outreach project. Your support will be appreciated.

CONGREGATIONAL LUNCH

Join us for a congregational lunch on Sunday, February 5 following worship. In order to be good stewards, we NEED YOU to RSVP, so that we know how much food to order. Our visitors on the 5th are welcome to attend the lunch, and we will plan accordingly. We need to start the new year with more accurate orders. We hope everyone will come, but we will only order enough for the responses received.  CONTACT THE CHURCH OFFICE with your RSVP office@morningsidepc.org.  Donations are accepted.

HELPING WITH TODDLERS & TWOS

We are seeking at least 2 more volunteers to assist with toddler/twos childcare on Sunday mornings.  Arrive at 10:45 to help Ms. Pat with the little ones.  Contact Melinda Sandkam at msandkam @morningsidepc.org if you would be able to help once a quarter.

FOOD NEEDED YEAR ROUND

In January, we are collecting pop-top foods, non-perishable microwave meals and can-openers for the Intown Collaborative Ministries food pantry. Please leave your donations in the Welcome Center baskets.

CONGRATULATIONS

On January 7, parents James and Eleanor and big brother Locke welcomed sister Emma Jean Attwood to the family.
