Come into God’s presence with singing!
People: For the Lord is a gracious God, whose mercy is everlasting, and
whose faithfulness endures to all generations.
Leader: Praise the Lord!

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and
deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not
loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength. We have not loved our
neighbors as ourselves. In your mercy, forgive what we have been, help us amend
what we are, and direct what we shall be, so that we may delight in your will and
walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Hear the Good News! The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ
Jesus came into the world to save sinners.
People: He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, that we might be dead
to sin and alive to all that is good.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, our sins are forgiven. - 1 Timothy 1:15; 1 Peter 2:24

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 473)

THE MINUTE MESSAGE Lynsley Tyler

THE FIRST LESSON Deuteronomy 18:15-20 (page 168 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE ANTHEM My God, I Thank Thee Robert Powell
My God, I thank Thee, who hast made the earth so bright, so full of splendor and of joy, beauty,
truth, and light; so many glorious things are here, noble, pure and right. I thank Thee, too, that Thou
hast made joy to abound; so many gentle thoughts and deeds circling us around, that in the darkest
spot of earth some love is found. I thank Thee, Lord, that Thou hast kept the best in store; we have
enough, yet not too much, to long for more; a yearning for a deeper peace not known before. Amen.

THE SECOND LESSON Mark 1:21-28 (page 33 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE SERMONJesus, My Hero” Brad Schweers

* THE HYMN 357 O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
