WORSHIP FEBRUARY 5, 2012
5TH SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY

THE GATHERING Meredith Loftis
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE Walter Huff, organist

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Praise the Lord!
People: I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the
company of the upright, in the congregation.
Leader: Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them,
People: full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness
endures forever.
Leader: He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;
People: the Lord is gracious and merciful.
Leader: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer. - Psalm 111:1-4

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 482 Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned. Where you have created us for genuine
community, we have huddled with those of like mind. Where you have created us
to rest in your constant care, we have failed to trust. Where you have created us to
give of ourselves with generosity of spirit to all we meet, we have held back from doing
what we can. We have not sought to be bad people, we simply haven’t lived as
you created us to live. We stand in need of forgiveness. How grateful we are that you
stand more ready to forgive than we are to ask. So, forgiving us, call us once more to
trusting discipleship. We pray it in the name of Jesus and for his sake, Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses,
People: but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are,
yet without sin.
Leader: Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may
receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Believe the promise of
the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. - Hebrews 4:15-16

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 466)
My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim, to spread through all the
earth abroad the honors of Thy name.

Leader: It is truly right…
Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with the choirs of heaven

glory of your name:
Sanctus: Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might, (Hymn 581)
