CONGREGATIONAL ASSESSMENT TOOL

Thank you to everyone who has completed a CAT Scan Survey! We have been pleased with the enthusiastic response so far. Yet we realize that many of you have not completed a survey so we are extending the deadline to February 17th.  Please complete one on-line by pasting the following link into your web browser: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/morningsidepresbyterian. Paper copies are available at the church or by contacting Jill Davis at jsamail@yahoo.com. Thanks!

LENTEN MISSION TRIP
Please contact Duncan Spears at 678.612.5476 or duncanspears@yahoo.com if you are interested in participating in our Lenten Mission trip to North Alabama March 15-17. The trip will focus on helping the community rebuild after the devastating tornado of 2011. Departure will be on Thursday at 5 p.m., returning Saturday evening. Meals and lodging are provided, and there is no cost for the two nights. Registration is due by March 1. If you are interested, plan on attending an informational meeting next Sunday, February 19 at 12:15 in Room 201.

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER AND PAJAMA PARTY

Everyone is invited to celebrate Shrove Tuesday at the annual MPC/MPP Pancake Supper and Pajama Party on Tuesday, February 21, from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Children are invited to wear their pajamas! Morningside’s Treble Choir will sing and you can enjoy dinner with the family while “Ruby the Clown” (Reuben Haller) as “The Cat in the Hat” delights kids and adults! Please bring NEW pajamas, socks and underwear for THREADS, a children’s ministry at All Saints Episcopal. Volunteers are still needed for the second shift 5:45-7:15 p.m. RSVP to attend or sign up to volunteer on the bulletin board next to the office or contact Jenn James jennjames@comcast.net

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE

Lent begins at Morningside with our worship service and imposition of ashes on Wednesday, February 22 at 7 p.m. We invite you this year as a Lenten discipline to add something instead of, or in addition to, giving up something. Beginning Ash Wednesday, Lent Mission Calendars will be available for a list of mission experience ideas for you and your family (some on a regular basis; others unique to the Lenten season). Find your mission experience and brighten someone’s day!

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

MPC's partnership with Habitat for Humanity and four other area churches kicks off this year during Lent. We will be building a home in the Thomasville Heights neighborhood of Southeast Atlanta for a family of five from Liberia. Build dates start this week, February 18 and continue every Saturday through the end of March. Look for the signup sheets on the Habitat bulletin board outside the Session Room or contact Lynsley Tyler (lynsley@bellsouth.net) for details.  We also need lunch providers for the March 17 build date.

RHO READERS

RHO Readers, an eclectic and co-ed book group, will meet next Sunday, February 19, to discuss the current best-seller “Death Comes to Pemberley” by P. D. James.  All are welcome to join the group in the Session Room at 12:45 p.m.  For more information contact Daisy Ottmann (dazette@bellsouth.net).

WOMEN’S ROUNDTABLE

Women’s Roundtable will be held February 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Lynn Young’s home (277 The Prado). Our speaker will be our own Barbara Ray, who has many wonderful and inspiring stories to share. Dinner and drinks will be provided. RSVP to Kim Knight Perez kimkperez@gmail.com.

THEATER OUTING

Actor Brad Sherrill has created a new play called “Red Letter Jesus” based on the words that Jesus says in the gospels. MPC will attend as a group on Sunday, March 4 at 2:30 p.m. at Theater on the Square in Marietta. To purchase group tickets, turn your check into the church office by next Sunday, February 19. Cost is $23 to MPC. Contact Katherine Johnston with questions kecjohnston@gmail.com.

HIGHER GROUND

What do an Imam, two Christian ministers, a Rabbi and Atlanta’s greatest community philanthropic resource have in common? Why Higher Ground, of course! These four dynamic Atlanta faith leaders were brought together by The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta to raise awareness of key issues affecting our community and to inspire positive change. Faith-based, but not faith-biased, Imam Plemon El-Amin, Rev. Joanna Adams, Rabbi Alvin Sugarman and Rev. Joseph Roberts blog on issues, challenges and successes while demonstrating that we can collaborate to create a stronger community. If you are looking for new perspectives, check out Higher Ground and subscribe to the blog via: http://www.highergroundgroup.org.

SANCTUARY FLOWERS
A flower calendar is posted on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Session Room, and if you wish to give flowers in honor or in memory of a loved one, we invite you to write your name and phone number next to the desired date. It is possible to share a date with other members if you want to give one arrangement or you may sign up alone to give both arrangements. Contact Anna Best in the church office office@morningsidepc.org for more information.

THANKS FOR GIVING!

Many thanks to the congregation for their support of the annual Souper Bowl Offering.  The combined offering and bake sale raised $535.31 which has been sent to Atlanta Community Food Bank for their continuing good work to support those facing hunger.

OUR SYMPATHY TO

Nell Roberts and Gene and John Turner on the death of Richard Batt, son-in-law and brother-in-law, on Friday, February 3 in St. Louis, Missouri.
