Baron Mullis preaching
"On the Nothing Train to Nowhere"
Texts: Isaiah 50:4-9a; Mark 15:1-15
WELCOME GUEST SOLOIST
We welcome Nathan Munson, tenor, as our guest soloist today. Nathan is a frequent performer with Atlanta Opera, and has sung with Opera North, Kentucky Symphonic Orchestra, Lexington Philharmonic, and the Atlanta Sacred Chorale among others. Nathan received his training at Southern Illinois University, the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) and the University of Kentucky. He also was one of the featured singers in the 2011 AO Christmas concert at All Saints Episcopal.
HOLY WEEK BANNERS
Banner #1 is entitled "Grace of the Earth." The green fabrics and batik prints of foliage represent the path strewn with branches and palm leaves laid to honor Jesus as he entered Jerusalem. The batiks show the clouding of the sun in the sky with gray-green shading. The fabrics move from light to dark representing the impending crucifixion.
Banner #2 is entitled "God's Power in our Midst" and symbolizes the night of Jesus' arrest and ultimately the crucifixion. The rust and gold batiks our eye sees visually interpret the blood moon with the brown, gold and dark batiks left to represent the wrenching agony of the event. Again, the fabric coloring moves from light to dark representing the power of God's love of humanity through Christ's life, death and resurrection.
YOUNG ADULTS
Since the first one was so well received, another vocational/career session has been scheduled for the Young Adults at the home of Brad Odom. Whether you attended the first one or not is not an issue. Tonight, April 1, at 6 p.m., Glenn Small, a licensed counselor, will facilitate the group in such a manner as to review and expand the earlier material. If you are searching for “what’s next” in your career search, this might be helpful. To RSVP or for more information, contact Brad at jbradleyodom@gmail.com.
ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING
On Easter Sunday, consider joining with Presbyterians around the world by contributing a special offering to One Great Hour of Sharing. The theme for OGHS 2012 is “Sharing Brings Joy to Others, to God, and to Us.” This year was historic for weather-related disasters and the Presbyterian Church was there for those in need because of your gifts to this offering. Write OGHS on your check’s memo line this Easter, so we can continue to care for all of God’s children.
THEOLOGY ON TAP
The next Theology on Tap dinner and discussion for all men will be hosted by Bill Means on Tuesday, April 3 at 7 p.m. at 1071 McLynn Ave., and the topic will be “Open Theological Forum.” There is a lot going on in the world lately. Our denomination is in turmoil. We're in the middle of the political season. The death of Trayvon Martin has shone a light on race relations and gun violence. Come think theologically about these things. After dinner, Baron will take questions and facilitate discussion on the topics of our choosing. RSVP to the church by Monday, April 2.
INTOWN COLLABORATIVE MINISTRIES FOOD PANTRY
Our next ICM food collection for pop-top foods, microwave meals (non-perishable), and can openers will be April 8-29. Place donated items in the Welcome Center baskets. The next pantry workday will be Saturday, April 14, 10:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. To help, sign up on the mission bulletin board or contact Nancy Collins ncollins0209@gmail.com.
BRAVES GAME
Morningside invites you to join us at a Braves Game Sunday, April 15 at 1:30 p.m. Seats are $20 per person.
