Baron Mullis preaching

"Wolves, Hired Hands, and the Good Shepherd"

Texts: Psalm 23; John 10:11-18

LAY READER

In keeping with the Presbyterian tenet of the priesthood of all believers, Morningside members participate regularly in worship leadership.  Today's lay reader is Amy DeBaets.

SCOTLAND IN 2013

Do you want to travel to the land of bagpipes, oatcakes and Calvinism? If so, Morningside is offering a trip to Scotland to celebrate the 499th anniversary of the birth of John Knox. (We celebrated the 499th anniversary of the birth of John Calvin in Geneva - why mess with a winning formula!) Travel agent Kaye Carmichael, who planned the Paris-Geneva trip, has put together a great itinerary for a nine-day trip around central Scotland. Highlights include: Inverness and Loch Ness, Culloden and Castle Cawdor, St. Andrews, a visit to Scotland's smallest distillery as well as Glasgow, and of course, Edinburgh! The highlight will be the Edinburgh military tattoo at the Castle during the Edinburgh International Festival. Travel is planned for August 2013. Attend an interest meeting in Room 201 at 12:30 p.m. today, April 29 to learn more.

COMMUNION FOR ALL MPC'S MEMBERS

Every week Baron affirms our commitment to be a congregation that is deeply inclusive; reflecting the breadth and depth of God's love for us all.  Just because members are no longer able to be present in worship with us does not mean that they are left out of our thoughts and our communion.  Our commitment to inclusion extends beyond the sanctuary walls and so we are delighted that Dr. Robert Gray will be taking communion to our shut-in and homebound members periodically following the celebration of the Lord's Supper in worship, accompanied by our deacons.  We want to be sure that this opportunity to be a part of the communion of the saints here at Morningside extends as widely as it can, so if you or someone you know at Morningside needs to receive communion at home, please contact deacon Curt Barrett (emailcurt @mindspring.com, 404.310.4665) to be included in Robert's schedule as he extends our ministry of love and inclusion beyond the sanctuary walls.

SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES

Both Vacation Bible School (June 25-29) and Mission Camp (July 23-27) registration forms are now available at the church and on-line. Sign up your kids today! All types of volunteers are also needed. Contact Melinda with questions.

THEOLOGY ON TAP

Our men’s gathering, Theology on Tap will wind up their Tuesday night series on practices of faith for the summer on May 1 at 7 p.m. with Richard Brownlee hosting (1046 Bellevue Dr., 30306). Baron notes, “As we come to the end of the series, our final topic is Dying Well.  Death is a mystery about which Christians purport to be unafraid – but are we really?  What does Christian faith teach us about death and how does that lead us to live?” To join the discussion, RSVP to the church office office@morningsidepc.org.

SENDING SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO LIBERIA

Through the “Mercer on Mission” trip, MPC is reaching out to the students and teachers of Rick’s Institute in Liberia. In May, Mercer Professor and MPC member, Emilie Paille, will travel to Liberia, and we will partner with Mercer by collecting needed school items for the institute (white board markers, white board spray cleaner, pens, paper clips, child and adult scissors, #2 pencils, rulers, individual hand-held sharpeners, colored pencils, crayons (box of 8 or 16), Elmer’s glue/glue sticks, construction paper, and index cards). Please bring your donated items to the Welcome Center by May 13.

MPP’S JUNGLE JAM

Come explore the jungle at MPP’s Jungle Jam! next Saturday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dads’ Grill, Madagascar Obstacle Course, Pirate Ship, King of Pops, DJ, Balloon Animals, Carnival Games and Rides, and much, much more! We are seeking sponsors for our activities, so we can make this the best Spring Fling ever. Funds raised via sponsorship donations offset our costs and help fund extras our preschool children enjoy. Consider sponsoring, in part or in full, one of our activities or making a general donation. All contributions, in any amount, are greatly appreciated! We also encourage you to sign up for one of our volunteer shifts – this is a great way to meet our preschool community and our neighbors. Contact Sarah Tomaka for more information, mpp@morningsidepc.org, 404.685.8758.

MPP ADDS KINDERGARTEN!

Morningside Presbyterian Preschool is proud to announce our Kindergarten Class! Beginning in the fall of 2012, we will add a half-day Kindergarten class as an expansion of our Preschool program. Our Kindergarten class will be a dynamic half-day program designed to use child-centered learning which encourages creativity, fun and academic success. Registration forms are now available. Questions? Contact Sarah Tomaka at 404.685.8758, mpp@morningsidepc.org.

MPP SUMMER PROGRAM

Camp Morningside summer program for children, ages 2-5, is now open for registration. We will provide 8 weeks of summer fun! Registration forms and session information are available online at http://www.morningsidepc.org/preschool/summercamp.html. If you need more information, call or email Sarah Tomaka, Preschool Director at 404.685.8758 or mpp@morningsidepc.org.
